INTERVIEW: Forgotten Sons
Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Life has been treating us well. We are fairly enjoying our time right now.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Ragged Sails High”?
This song a little more rock and roll than our previous single Leave The Light On. When we play it live, we bounce off of each others energy and it really gets us in the mood to rock out. We hope that folk enjoy it too.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
We used the ship as a metaphor. You just can’t abandon ship if life gets on top you no matter how bad things get. Just keep sailing through and it will get better. Life choices and decisions to make life better was a big inspiration.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We already have a video done and dusted. It will be released along with the song on 23rd of March. It was shot in an old school and has a dark feel to it.
How was the recording and writing process?
This was one of the few songs that was written as a band. We normally write every song on an acoustic guitar and approach the band but this song had so much energy. Sandy started playing a riff and we worked around it. We recorded Ragged Sails High as a rough demo in a house/studio. We then sent it away to The Animal Farm who did a few tweeks before sending it to Wales to get mastered.
What role does Shetland play in your writing?
We are surrounded by sea up here in Shetland. We wanted to use a ship as a metaphor so folk could relate to the song.
How has Rise Against and Alkaline Trio influenced your music?
Alkaline Trio have 2 singers and we use the same idea with Birdy and Sandy. We’ve been growing up and listening to them for years. Rise Against have also been in our lives for years. We have seen both bands play live and it has inspired us.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – if so, how’s that coming along?
Maybe not an album just yet. Right now, we are concentrating on singles and getting our band out there.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We have another track after Ragged Sails High. It is called Pennies In The Water and we hope to release it mid Summer.
Any plans to hit the road?
We want to tour Scotland sometime this year. Play a few shows in the major cities.
What else is happening next in Forgotten Sons’ world?
We are writing new material and playing gigs and festivals. Living the dream!
