Thanks! It’s great to be here (at my PC in my garage). Very happy to be speaking with you, we’re all good, just trying to survive another grim British winter.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Monster Hunter Medley”?
I Can! The track opens with the main theme of the Monster Hunter franchise, Proof of a Hero, loosely based around the version heard in Monster Hunter Tri. This functions to establish you, the listener as the hero in your very own five minute Monster Hunter quest. Our courageous hero (you) then goes through three trials, fighting some of the franchises most feared monsters! In order: Zinogre, Deviljho and Brachydios followed by a reprise of the Proof of a Hero theme as your adventure comes full circle, before finishing with the Quest Clear fanfare. It’s all very exciting really.
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song aside from the game?
Our guitarist Ed has sunk almost 700 hours of his life into Monster Hunter over the years, you could consider this track a tribute to all the time that he’s never going to get back.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
Very fun! This is our first full production music video so the door was wide open to do whatever we wanted. The performance that we shot with the band on the tower in the rain is the coldest I have ever been.
How was the recording and writing process?
Excellent really, we record everything, drums included, in-house and are getting progressively better results with every session. It was also the quickest turn around we have been able to achieve so far, from the inception of the track to finished video in 2 months. This might sound like a long time but for us this was a big achievement. Plenty of room to improve though…
What role does the UK play in your writing?
The British have a particular sarcastic and sometimes absurd sense of humour, we enjoy expressing this in what we do.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
Due to the nature of the band we are going for a track by track model for the near future, we have a lot more releases planned for the rest of 2018 so watch out for those! As far as an album goes it’s something to consider, but at least not until next year.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Our next release will be spring 2018. That’s as much as I can say at the moment…
Any plans to hit the road?
Definitely! We play all around the UK regularly and would love to get across to the rest of Europe and beyond… Hopefully, those opportunities will present themselves.
What else is happening next in EZXP’s world?
We’re currently working on our next round of releases, as well as adding new tracks to the live set. Keeps us pretty busy!
