Hi! welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Modern Romance”?
This is our first official release of 2018, and it musically really encapsulates what B00TY
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
We freestyled a lot of this song, and we tend to write a lot about our relationships with women. And it’s a weird time for love these days when everyone thinks they’re an Instagram model and the latest dating technology is hyper-realistic sex robots.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yup. Pomo and Danny are such great musicians that we wanted to feature they’re playing in the song, so we shot a live studio video at the Interscope studios.
What was it like to work with Pomo and what did he brought up to the table?
Pomo is a funk god in the body of a young Jewish, Canadian man named David. He’s an incredible producer and mind blowing keys player. He produced our favorite Anderson Paak song, so we already knew going in to the session that he had the sauce. He also came into the studio with Danny McKinnon, who is pretty much the best guitarist we’ve ever seen. There was an instant soul connection with those guys. We have a secret side project with them called Hot Takes… all music to be released posthumously.
How was the recording and writing process?
We wrote and recorded the whole song in one day at Interscope studios on the first day we met Pomo and Danny. It was dope.
How has 70s influences your music?
Where do we even start… Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Bee Gees, Diana Ross, Earth Wind & Fire, John Lennon, Nile Rogers- let’s just stop there before the list gets way too long. It’s a lot of the music both of us grew up listening to, and those greats will always have influence on our sound.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
We’ve got a lot of new music that we’ve been working on this past year, planning to put out an EP later this year, although, we have so much new stuff, who knows…
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Any plans to hit the road?
We have a couple shows in LA coming up, and still sorting out dates for a tour, which will probably coincide with the EP.
What else is happening next in B00ty’s world?
We’ve got some collabs lined up that we’re really excited about, including writing more with Pomo and Danny.
And for those who don’t know, we also recently released a cover of The Weekend by SZA which is out on our Soundcloud – soundcloud.com/b00tymusic
