INTERVIEW: Lemar Wallace-Clarke

Hi Lemar, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Never been better, thanks for having me. These are very exciting times as I have just released my debut EP and it has been getting some really positive feedback.

Can you talk to us more about your song “Raging Bull”?

Raging Bull is one of my favourite tracks on the EP. It’s about my entrance into the music scene, hence why it’s the first track. I consider myself to a very motivated person hence the metaphor ‘running with the raging bull’. It’s a fun song and I have been told it gets you moving and motivated which is exactly what I was looking to do with this song.

Did any event inspire you to write this song?

Not so much of an event, it was more like a calling. People kept commenting that I was always so determined and they liked the way I dealt with any obstacles that were thrown at me. I can’t help it I just like to get things done so it was only fitting that I would make a song about it.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

I was contacted by a production company who really liked the track. Hopefully we can take it a step further and get some visuals out very soon.

The single comes off your new EP A King Without A Throne – what’s the story behind the title?

I believe that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. I truly believe that I will make it in music and life in general, however I am not quite there yet, I have a way to go – so it’s a metaphor for just that, a diamond in the rough ‘A King without a Throne.’

Would you call this a conceptual record?

Yes definitely – the concept is whatever you do, do it like a raging bull. Put 100% into everything you do physically and mentally and you will get good things in return.

How was the recording and writing process?

I made the instrumental first and then danced for about three days [laughs].

Only joking it was only 2 days – I wrote this song while in my bedroom. I don’t know if this is a common thing with other songwriters but I make the melody first while talking to myself, mostly gibberish and then I fill in the words afterwards

What role does Reading play in your writing?

Reading is a massive part of what I do, it’s where I grew up and it’s where I would love to stay and raise my own family one day. We are all products of our environment so my music is definitely affected by that.

What aspect of your life did you get to explore on the record?

My motivation, my goals I get to tell you my why! The ‘why’ being the reason I am doing all of this.

Any plans to hit the road?

I looking to play some local events to promote the EP. Given this is my first serious project I am hoping to use the traction and momentum to play more gigs. If there are any promotors or event managers reading this feel free to get in touch [laughs].

What else is happening next in Lemar Wallace-Clarke´s world?

I am busy loving life – although music is my life I am interested in other things as well. I have just been given a part in an up and coming YouTube series via Link UP TV called ‘Signed’.

I am very excited to get back into acting as it is literally on par with music and they are both very important to me. I am also working on new music and I am having the time of my life while doing it.
