Today, Los Angeles based trio King Shelter shared the premiere of their new single “Teeth & Claws” on Bandsintown. It’s the second track taken from their upcoming debut album $hame due out March 30th, 2018 on Broken Entertainment. The band will also be doing a short run of West Coast dates next month including an appearance at You’re Going To Hate This Fest with The Frights.
While the first single “Pick Your Poison” added extra grit to the sound King Shelter has been pursuing since their breakout EP Failure, “Teeth & Claws” leans into the pop sensibilities they never abandoned and further shows off the range achieved throughout their forthcoming debut. The background percussion, subtle guitar licks and feedback that are layered over the stuttering beat build to a greater whole, adding to the mysterious air of the track. Lead guitarist and vocalist, Taylor Hecocks’ melodies throughout “Teeth & Claws” is where the decided poppiness shines through the ambient and warped instrumentals. About the track Hecocks’ says “‘Teeth & Claws’ is not only an observation of structured religions underbelly, but also an observation of the desires that individuals deem as a crutch for contentment. It seems more beneficial for ones well being to simply be content and to strive for that in what they have, not in what they want. Power is deception.”
Back in 2014, Taylor Hecocks formed King Shelter in La Mirada, CA while studying music at university with the lead guitarist, David Noble, and bassist, John Harzan. King Shelter kicked the project off by playing local shows around Orange County for friends and local music fans after they self-released a DIY album that Hecocks produced and engineered. The Failure EP would prove to be their first real stamp on the Orange County, CA music scene. King Shelter went from playing backyards before the release, to headlining the Constellation Room two months later, and eventually would move on to taking over the LA market – selling out The Echo in February of 2017. The band followed up their success with the Failure EP by releasing a series of singles that were produced by Adam Castilla from the Colourist. The band is set to release their debut album, $hame, this spring with Broken Entertainment that will solidify their mark on the Southern California music scene for years to come.
