INTERVIEW: Deadset Dream

How have you been?

We have been very good, nice and refreshed after the Christmas break ready to do some serious writing and performing!

Talk to us more about the song ‘Blah’

Blah is inspired by the final stages of a toxic relationship, where every time your partner opens their mouth, your instant reaction is to switch off because you literally don’t have time for whatever it is they are about to say. You can see the end but neither of you want to be ‘the bad guy’ so you’re basically just putting up with each other to avoid the upset. The song is full of attitude and is basically a message for your partner for when you reach that point. From experience, we advise that you approach that situation with a bit more subtlety or there could be fireworks. We recently ventured down to Northampton to work with Life Is Art Visuals for the video. Chris and the guys do amazing work with some amazing bands. They are very creative with what they do and have really captured the mood of the track in the video which is due for a late February release! The track was recorded with the awesome James Pinder over at Treehouse Studios in Chesterfield, we’ve worked with Jim on the majority of our music so far and his finished product is such a high standard. So yeah, we are so happy with the sound and the video, we’re just excited to get it out there in general!

How has Mallory Knox and Don Broco influenced your music?

They are both very good at what they do, they are flying the alt-rock flag high in a time where alt-rock had been pushed aside by the hype of indie and grime, they are both live performance powerhouses, I think there is a lot to take from their work ethic, their performances, their crowd interaction and their musical direction! We’d just love to be one of those bands that people discover, they think ‘these guys are good!’ And then after seeing us live they think ‘these guys are insane!’ … that’s what both mallory Knox and Don Broco did for us, unreal.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album?

At this point, we are focussed on writing more and more as we are well and truly in the swing of things, I guess the possibilities of an album are going to rely entirely on just how productive our writing time is, it’s too early to give you a definite answer just now though, but hey! You never know.

Any Tentative release or title in mind?

We thought our next release was obvious for us, but with the new song’s we’ve written and a few planned studio visits, we not have no idea which song to release next, there are so many fun, bouncy tracks to choose from, it’s just trying to figure out which one you guys would love the most!

Any plans to hit the road?

We are hitting the road at the end of march going into April! We will be touching base in Nottingham, Sheffield, Newcastle, Birmingham and London (not in that order!) with the amazing As December Falls, Led By Lanterns and Leap Years, we are beyond excited to be sharing not just a stage but an entire string of dates with such a strong lineup, if you have no plans, you won’t want to miss this one.

What else is happening in Deadset Dream’s world?

It’s taken us a long time but I feel like DD has finally found it’s voice in terms of genre, we’ve been swaying between Alt-Rock and Pop-Punk for the last few years and we have finally found a comfortable, fun and bouncy point in the middle that suits us perfectly, we love what we’re writing at the moment, it’s a tonne of fun to play and it seems to be getting a positive reaction from our followers which is what it’s all about.
