INTERVIEW: Norwegian artist Hanne Leland

Hi Hanne, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey Vents! Thanks for having me. I’m doing great. I feel like I have an exciting year ahead of me.

Can you talk to us more about your song “Carry On”?

I wrote “Carry On” in a writing session in Los Angeles last year. I wrote it with two the two Canadian songwriters and producers Brian West and Chin Injeti. Chin started playing this really cool groovy baseline, and I started singing on top of that. The wholesongcametogetherratherquickly.

Did any event inspire you to write this song?

I find it really hard sometimes to be optimistic in the world we live in. With all the bad stuff going it’s difficult to see how we possibly can go on with our lives. I struggle with that  alot. But I didn’t want to dwell in the negativity and write a sad song, I wanted to write about the importance of unity and how we can be a force of love and light even though the world is fucking dark and scary.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

There is a lyric video with live footage coming out last week of February.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was a really hot summers day in LA, so I remember sweating a lot, haha. But it was great, I love working in LA, it’s such a laid back and nice vibe and it’s sunny all the time.

What was it like to work with Brian West and how did that relationship develop?

Brian has produced some of my all time favourite songs (Hey Rachel Platten and Nelly Furtado!)  and I told my label that they NEEDED to put me in the studio with him. They did, and it was a great experience. He is a pro, and also a really nice person.

How much did he influence the song?

He is a really good vocal producer. He brought out things from my vocal that I didn’t know I was capable of doing. He is a very experienced producer and I think you can tell from listening to “Carry On”. It’s a solid and confident production

What role does Norway play in your writing?

Norwegian people are known for being honest and up front. I thing that shows in my writing. I always be 100% vurnebule and open in my lyrics. I want to share my raw feelings and thoughts, and I think that’s what resonates with people the most.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Right now I’m really focused on releasing singles, but I’m hoping to release an album again in the near future.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I have some secret titles but nothing I can share yet unfortunately 🙂

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! 2018 dates are being planned right now, see my website www.hanneleland.com or sign up for my newsletter. All dates will be announced there first.

What else is happening next in Hanne Leland´s world?

Writing, recording, and doing promo for “Carry On” is what I will be doing for the next few months. There’s  a remix coming in March, and I will be releasing more music in the spring, which I’m SO excited about!
