PREMIERE: There’s Talk Release New Music Video For “Soundry”

Today we are pleased to team up with There’s Talk for the premiere of their newest video for their latest track “Soundry.” The video captures the psychedelic aesthetic the band has come to be known for.

About the song, the band comments:

“The Soundry was a darling, ephemeral art collective housed in a converted garage- the only one of the sort in my Virginia hometown,” member Olivia Lee explains. “I was an angsty teen who absolutely lived for it every week, each time trying actively to contain my excitement at the sights and sounds of other misfits and weird music lovers. I devised new covers, secretly sandwiching my own songs, to share at the weekly open mic where I met the host, a charismatic soul with an authoritative humor reminiscent of Jack Black: Sean Meyers. In a short time we played an avante ambient folk show at a dive in D.C. together, contributed noises to a haunted house soundtrack, and he encouraged me to put together my first show of my own songs at The Soundry.”

“I eventually moved to San Francisco for college and Sean checked in often to hear big city tales and see when I’d come back and play. In our last exchange I promised soon. I was heartbroken to hear he had been taken too soon in a motor accident. Sean lives alive in the currents and my heart, and I laugh to myself when he sends me an extra farty sound through the VCA.”

The indie / electronic dream pop effort began as project by Oakland based multi-instrumentalist Olivia Lee (vocals, synths, programming, guitar) as she wrote in between other collaborations.

She began recording in the the converted garage studio of friend Nic De La Riva and finished recording and mixing with engineer Ian Pellicci (Yann Tiersen, Rogue Wave, Hauschka) at Tiny Telephone.

Kellen Balla (electronics, programming, vocals) and Young Lee (guitar, vocals) were added with hopes of expanding ambitious electronic soundscapes for live performance.

The debut EP, Tiny Stands, rich with eclectic subtleties and dark harmonies reminiscent of folk influence Sufjan Stevens and textural confessions of Youth Lagoon, released Fall of 2013 garnering recognition from Vimeo, Bandcamp, Impose Magazine, and Crack in the Road.

After the release the band toured regionally, supporting Glass Animals, Cigarettes After Sex, Arthur Beatrice, Waters, Astronauts Etc, Holly Miranda, Money and more. Utilizing vocal looping, lush synthesizers, and reverb drenched guitar the three took to a hauntingly dynamic wall of sound that now sets the tone for the full band.
