INTERVIEW: Metal Quartet INSOLVENCY

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Fantastic! Thanks for talking with us!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Death Wish”?

Our latest single is for us one of the best songs on this album, technical, melodic, melancholic, sad, powerful and aggressive: All in one! If you like it speedy, groovy and melodic you must check it out!

We made a video based on the story of a kid who is constantly harassed and surrounded by his violent dad. We wanted to show psychological and physical violence through it with a kid who wanted to commit suicide but wishing for better days too!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I think we’ve all felt one day kind of despair and wanting to not live anymore, so we built a song around these feels!

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

We worked with the video director Igor Omodei for the filming process and video.
We brought to him main ideas about a kid surrounded by his dad and wanting to die… and he did a great job on writing any parts and how he needs to film it and with which effects! It was really funny to assist him and especially with the aquarium part.

This dude has done great work also for Betraying The Martyrs and his own band Uneven Structure.

For The band performance part we did wanted kind of a colored background, and this one seemed nice to us after the dark one we had with the first video “ Black moon”

The single comes off your new album Antagonism Of The Soul – what’s the story behind the title?

Antagonism is which what everything is made of on earth, especially human being: contradiction, oppositions. We feel inspired by all these contradictions we’re living everyday so we found nice to build the album around it

How was the recording and writing process?

Pierre (Bass / Vocals) and Valentin (Guitar / Vocals) wrote most of the song structures and riffs, we all improved it together in a second step.  Each of us brings ideas on their first attempt until everyone is happy with everything!

The recording was split on two steps: guitars and main vocals has been recorded in our own home studio and carefully saved on track by track for the studio.

We went in the UK then for the Drum recording (luckily we’ve had While she Sleeps drum kit available at the Treehouse Studio!!).  Jim Pinder and Carl Bown were working with them during the same period so easier to keep the drum at the studio haha!
We felt everyone was so friendly and an amazing kindness from them to make us feel like at home!

We’ve spent 10 days there, a bit less than one day per song, and then we discussed about mixing mastering choices with Jim during the last days ^^

How has Children of Bodom influence your writing?

Check at Bruno’s Guitar solos on Death Wish or also on Antagonism Of the Soul and you’ll understand haha! We all love this band but each of us has various influences from death to pop music so

What role does the UK play in your music?

The UK plays a role in any music style with the bands coming up from there, so much GREAT music coming from this country. ! We feel sad to live in France compared to UK or even to Finland or the US!

What aspect of the soul did you get to explore on this record?

Mainly all kind of feels we’ve all met in life: Anger, Despair, Hope, Power, Violence.
That wasn’t really poetic from us we wanted to make it rough!

Any plans to hit the road?

At the moment mainly in France, we’re working on touring but it need time to set up!

What else is happening next in INSOLVENCY’s world?

A new music video is planned hopefully for March! Then we’re hoping to be able to plan a tour around Europe and then we’ll see what opportunity we’ll have.
