Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hello, we have been very busy. But in a good way.
Can you talk to us more about your next single “Bitter Memory”?
Its a short, sweet number that consists of gnarly riffs, hard hitting drums and blood curdling vocals.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The misfortune of knowing particular people who do not value friendship or companionship. The type of narcissistic’s who are only good at manipulating, lying and believing their own hype on how they can never do any wrong. The type of people of you look back in “bitter memory”,
Any plans to release a video for the single?
The video is complete. Jack from Jesukarhu has done a superb job on it. We had expectations that were surpassed by that man’s talent. In due time there will be an announcement on it’ and we cant wait to show it to the masses.
The single comes off your new EP Cry Havoc – what’s the story behind the title?
Me and the guitarist are a couple of sci-fi nerds. The name comes from a line used in Star Trek VI “The Undiscovered Country”. Its something me and him shout at each other prior to playing a gig to get us in the mood. I don’t know how it works, but it does.
How was the recording and writing process?
A smooth process. Our good friend Leigh from Remnant is the chap who was sat at the mixing desk producing this e.p. We came to him as we have played many gigs with his band and felt he would be the ideal chap to bring justification on the sound that we strive for as a group. He has certainly done this and we are hoping to work with him again when we start work on our first album.
How has Mastodon and Lamb of God influenced your music?
Lamb of God is definitely the backbone of the the groove in our current tracks. Mastodon is a nice reminder that its okay to try something different rather than try strike lighting in the same place twice. We always like to try and step into unfamiliar territory from time to time and I believe that is starting to show in some of the later tracks we have been writing.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Lyrically it would be life experience. Musically we try and avoid cramming in riffs just for the sake of making a song. We need to allow time for things to breathe and let the music start writing itself.
Any plans to hit the road?
We already have a string of gigs up and down the country. More will be announced over the next few months and we will keep people updated through our page at www.facebook.com/gutlockeruk.
What else is happening next in GUTLOCKER’s world?
The same thing different day. Playing as many gigs as possible, continuing to write new material and in time making a start on our next recording.
