Thanks for having us, we’ve been great! Really excited to answer some questions for our new audience.
Can you talk to us more about your song “Kingsglaive”?
The song was inspired by Final Fantasy XV and the movie of the same name. Mainly about the struggle that the main character had with becoming something for the greater good. It’s our debut single and we’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback which is awesome.
Did any event inspire you to write this song?
I don’t think any event in particular inspired us, mainly the game and movie’s aesthetic and storytelling.
How was the filming process and experience behind the music video?
Very fast! We had scouted out some locations and ended up going with a photography studio that was set up in someone’s loft apartment. It was very cozy, but also very hot after we did a lot of spins and moves that did not make it into the final video. We had about three hours to shoot so we were pretty much in and out in a flash.
What made you want to do a concept single?
Music to us is storytelling and having a story to tell or be inspired by makes it all the better to listen to. Since the beginning of the band, even before any music was written, we had a strong sense of what we wanted to convey to the listener, and we used inspiration from the game and movie to help us.
How was the recording and writing process?
The process was very collaborative. Once Taylor wrote out the guitar parts, it was very easy for us to add everything else on and switch around parts as needed. We currently don’t have a dedicated bassist or drummer to write those parts, so Franz took care of most of them. We recorded with our friend Kevin at All In Recordings, and he helped us shape the sound and hash out some of the drum parts. I remember after we took home the instrumental for the track, we couldn’t stop listening to it. As for vocals, Ethan was with us in the studio when we tracked instruments but took about a week to digest the material and record vocals separately. We were all very eager to start writing music again.
What was it like to work with Crystal Lake’s Ryo and how did that relationship develop?
We e-mailed Ryo/Crystal Lake, and I’m not sure if we were expecting a response or not, but we were happy when we received one. We were big fans of the band and he was one of the first names that came to mind when thinking about a feature for the song. We sent them the track and within a week or so, we got his parts for the song. It was very surreal to hear a voice that we listened for so long on top of music that we wrote.
How much did he influence the song?
Not too much, we already had the song laid out beforehand, so it was a matter of seeing if he wanted to do the part.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
We’re actually aiming to do another single first and then start saving up material for either an EP or full length, depends on how fast we work.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We’re looking around spring time for the next single.
Any plans to hit the road?
Nothing in the near future that we know about, but we’ll keep everyone updated on our socials!
What else is happening next in SCINTILLA´s world?
We’re going to try and make more music that we like and get the ball rolling so that we can play shows and meet everyone! Thanks for the interview guys!
