How would you classify your music?
When listening to my music, it’s obvious that I’m inspired by various genres and decades of music. The core of my sound, however, is definitely R&B.
Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?
When I first started to write songs my biggest influences included Mary Mary, The Brilliance, Kierra Sheard, Don Moen, and definitely Alicia Keys. Currently, it’s impossible to select 5. I’m learning from so many different artists and musicians, none more than the other.
What do you want fans to take from your music?
I want them to feel encouraged to get to know Jesus more and become hopeful about their future, as if they just got advice from their sister/friend.
How’s the music scene in your locale?
Honestly, I feel so blessed to live where I do. I’m not too far from Philadelphia, which is filled with talent, particularly in the gospel, soul, and R&B scene. In the same breath, I’m connected in a community that highly values classical and worship music. I’m constantly inspired.
What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?
The best concert I’ve been to was definitely an Israel & New Breed Concert!
What I like most about playing live is feeding off of the audience and together creating a unique atmosphere and experience. I lose myself and perform in a way that can’t be rehearsed. It’s supernatural, truly.
Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?
Oh my goodness… so hard… I am so proud of this album, I can’t even begin to explain it. Every song is different and has their own value and purpose. If I had to choose, I would choose “Never Stop Believing”. It’s the most personal song I’ve ever written. It’s hard to sing without tearing up.
How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?
I was always a passionate singer and a songwriter and loved ministering and performing. This year, I became so desperate to fulfill my calling as an artist that I became bold and fearless. I perform with so much certainty and confidence and I study other artists in a way that I’ve never done before. I’m really grateful for my growth over this past year.
If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?
Michael Jackson. I don’t think the earth will ever see that kind of determination, work ethic, or artistry ever again. He was our gift.
What’s next for you?
Performing, performing, and more performing. I cannot and will not stop doing what it takes to have my message be received by as many people as possible.
