Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Good, thanks for having us!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Copycat”?
Copycat is the first single out of our upcoming EP “Renegade Holiday” due on February 23rd. The song tells a story about a cat and its adventures. It talks about the indifference cats are known for, which is something we relate a lot with unreciprocated love you find in human relationships many times. Aside from that, it’s a pop song. Catchy. Groovy. We’re super happy with how it sounds.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Rafa: We always begin writing our songs with musical ideas and it wasn’t different with this one. When we were in Yosemite writing songs for our next EP, Copycat was one of the jams we wrote together. When we came back the jam took turns and ended up becoming the song we produced and recorded.
Joe: As far as lyrics go, not one event in particular inspired me. This song started with the idea of writing about a fictitious character and the story followed. I wrote the lyrics to the chorus first and the concept out of those words is what inspired me to develop copycat’s story.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Apoena: We have a lyric video out that was done by SANCTVS.
The single comes off your new album Renegade Holiday – what’s the story behind the title? How was the recording and writing process?
Apoena: In this EP we took the same approach we took on our first record. We isolated ourselves in a house away from everything we know and jammed for days. This time around we went to California and rented a cabin near the Yosemite Park, which was a huge inspiration for us. On our way back we toured and played all those songs in front of a ton of different people which gave us an incredible perspective on how these tunes speak to both our audience and with other songs in our set. When we came back we did what we always do which is produce and record all the material ourselves in our studio and in friends studios.
Any plans to hit the road?
Andre: For now, we’re focusing on doing shows on the northeast of the US, starting with our EP release at Rough Trade NYC on feb 24th. We’ll announce more dates soon.
What else is happening next in RANN’s world?
Apoena: We’re taking this year to develop what we love the most: our art. We plan on releasing music differently than we have before. Instead of releasing full albums every two years we want to put out songs and videos as often as our capacity to produce high quality content allows. You can expect us to come out with new material throughout this year a lot.
