Michael W. Smith is excited to release his new album “A Million Lights” next Friday February 16th, followed by the release of his highly anticipated live worship album “Surrounded” the following Friday February 23rd.
In support of both albums Michael will kick off a North American headlining tour on March 8th, followed by a tour of Israel and another 40-date North American tour this fall. Compassion International, a child-advocacy ministry for which Michael has sponsored over 70,000 children from Third-World-Countries, will present the U.S. tour.
One can go on about Michael’s impressive career – he’s written 32 #1 songs, the winner of three Grammy Awards and 45 Dove Awards, he’s given back to the global community and he’s a best-selling author – but it’s Michael’s ability to write compelling, inspired new music that has allowed him to perform around the world to sold-out crowds for the last 30+ years.
Fueled by the divisive national sentiment of 2017 and the mean-spirited banter on social media, Michael was motivated by the present need of love and the paradox of modern technology when writing “A Million Lights.”
“About half the album was written in response to where we are as a nation,” says Michael. “In the age of social media, people have forgotten how to talk with one another, to be civil … my parents taught me to love and respect others, even if we had differing points of view. That doesn’t seem to be the norm today.”
Yahoo Music applauds A Million Lights for “tackling a tough audience: the divided American people” and points out that new song “[Love Always Wins] is especially relevant in today’s environment, calling for a focus on the positive.”
“Forever, until the world ends, music is the most powerful language there is,” says Michael. “It can transform your life on every level, not just the spiritual. It can help people reconnect with why they’re here. That’s what I’m doing with A Million Lights.”
First single “A Million Lights” and “Love Always Wins” can now be heard on major Spotify playlists like “100 Essentials,” “American Top 40 Charts,” “Top Christian,” “Ultimate Indie” and “Dance Around The House.”
