INTERVIEW: Dionne Bromfield

Hi Dionne, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! Im good thank you. Been very busy but all good!

Can you talk to us more about your song with Naxxos “Animal”?

I love the Naxxos boys and love the tune we’ve done together. I didn’t write this song but was a big fan of it when i first heard it. When they boys came to me and asked me to sing on it i couldn’t say no. It was super catchy and i couldn’t stop singing it. The boys are super talented too, so it’s nice working with talented people.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

We shot a live video in the studio before Christmas and put that online a couple weeks back! You can check it out on YouTube. Looks wicked!

How was the recording and writing process?

We were all on a writing camp in London 2016 and the boys said to me they had a song that they would love me to sing on. I usually don’t do features but if I like a tune i’ll do it, and that’s what happened with this song. As soon as i heard it i loved it and we had a couple hours together and i recorded it. The rest is history really!

How much room did you have to contribute and what were you looking to bring to the table?

The boys were very open in allowing me to bring my style to the track. Obviously they have their own style and so do I, and I think the main thing we both wanted to do was blend our two styles together.

Does the approach tend to change when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

Yes because you need to adapt to the artist’s sound. I have my own sound and thankfully the boys wanted to make sure I kept my style on the track. When its your own music you don’t really worry about what approach to take because you know how you want it to sound.

How has your upbringing influenced your music?

It majorly influenced me. I’ve always been around music, my mum had a great taste in  60’s – 90’s music and I grew up loving and obsessing over 60’s music. Especially Motown! And obviously having a musical family member that was doing music at the highest position helped so much.

Are there any plans on releasing a new album or single? How’s that coming along?

Absolutely! Definitely singles, hopefully and album this year too. It’s going really well. I love the tunes in writing and recording at the moment. This stuff is the most personal stuff I’ve ever written so it means a lot to me.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

No actual release date yet, but I will 100% be releasing music this year. It’s been far too long and I can’t wait to let everyone hear what I’ve been up to.

Any plans to hit the road?

Nothing set in stone yet but hopefully around summer time and towards the end of the year. I love performing, for me it’s the best part -just being able to play your songs to people.
