After a brief hiatus, 18 year old London-based artist Emma McGrath bounces back on the scene with the new single ‘Love You Better’, taken from her upcoming sophomore six-track EP ‘Silent Minds’, set for release on 13 April.
Written with Grammy Award winning Jimmy Hogarth, ‘Love You Better’ is a bright pop track full of atmospheric guitar riffs, mellow vocals, emotive lyrics and a catchy synth hook courtesy of a Rolan Jupiter 8.
Emma says of ‘Love You Better’,
“It’s an interesting song, that can be viewed in two different ways. The lyrics “I can love you better in the long run” have juxtaposing meanings – “I’ll become a better person” or “I’m better than that person”. It says a lot about the attitude of an individual in love.”
Emma has been writing her own material since the tender age of 12. She self released her first EP, ‘The Judgement’, in November 2014. This was followed in December 2015 with the single ‘Sit With Me‘, which caught the attention of key media including BBC Introducing who awarded it Track Of The Week twice and BBC Radio 2, where it received plays from both Dermot O’Leary and Bob Harris.
Topping off a great 2015, Emma was awarded the PRS Foundation’s Lynsey de Paul prize.
Over the past 18 months Emma has been working hard, building up a close network of writers who have helped to develop her craft and hone her sound. Recognising this, in 2017 the PRS Foundation awarded Emma the Women Make Music grant for the development and subsequent release of an EP.
She is now recording with several highly qualified and exciting producers including: Grammy Award winning Jimmy Hogarth, Brit School alumni Jackson and Rhiannon Mair.
Live, Emma has a highly intimate set, with sessions at BBC Introducing and Balcony TV already under her belt, and continued support from Radio X, Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing. Emma has shows lined up with Sofar Sounds in February and Rough Trade West in March, as well as a series of live dates in February.
