French psych duo The Limiñanas have released a Laurent Garnier remix of “Dimanche” off their new album Twisting the Shadow People. Garnier is a French producer and DJ whose multi-decade-spanning career has seen him through work with Ed Bangor Records and the FNAC label, the formation of his own F Communications and worldwide recognition for his electronic music work. The Limiñanas released Twisting The Shadow People to critical acclaim last month on Because Music.
Lionel Limiñana tells of collaborating with Garnier:
“We met Laurent Garnier around his festival Yeah! That he organizes every year at Lourmarin near Marseille. We were booked for the 2017 edition, and met him and got along. Laurent Garnier was curious about our work and we stayed in touch. We started writing to each other, and gently sent him our new album Shadow People.
Spontaneously, he suggested to do a remix on the track “Dimanche”. And he sent us this very cool hypnotic remix of more than 6min30! Totally loyal to New Wave and Psychedelic spirit of the original, he extends the track while respecting its structure (the text is kept intact, which doesn’t happen so much with remixes) strengthening even more the power of the song and its far echo, with the saturated voice of Bertrand Belin.”
One of France’s most beloved cultural treasures, The Limiñanas are Marie (drums/vocals) and Lionel (guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals). Hailing from Perpignan, the duo straddles the boundary between psych, shoegaze, and yé-yé. With hazy, reverb-laden hooks, combined at times with noisy distortion, and fronted by effortlessly cool vocals, reminiscent ofSerge Gainsbourg andBrigitte Bardot, the band is at once timeless and quintessentially French.
New album Twisting the Shadow People was recorded and produced at The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe’s studio in Berlin.
