Can you talk to us more about your song “Eye In The Sky”?
Eye in the Sky is a song about the drug war in the United States. The “eye” in the sky symbolizes always being watched by an authoritative figure. The second verse references the burning of cities Sodom and Gomorrah from the Bible. Lot and his wife were told by angels to not look back at the burning cities. Lot’s wife disobeyed, and after looking back, turned into a pillar of salt.
This song was inspired by a woman we knew who was diagnosed as a teenager with stomach cancer.
She self-medicated with cannabis while fighting cancer and continued to use cannabis in remission. Authorities found out and the “drug task force”, as they proudly call themselves, raided her home with guns and took her to jail.
This incident is just one example of the many atrocious acts of the DEA and police that terrorize non-violent human beings daily. I’ve had several friends lose money, time, and valuable medicine in altercations with authorities. I’ve watched my Latin American, African American, and other minority friends experience far more stops and persecution due to these laws.
Any plans to release a video for the track?
We have not released a music video… yet.
How was the recording and writing process?
This song came out fast. Anna wrote it in about 15 minutes. We recorded it live at our dear friend’s home studio in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
What role does Arkansas play in your writing?
Arkansas has very much inspired us in our songwriting. It’s a beautiful place, but like every beautiful place, there are challenges. These challenges and tensions are good kindling for songs.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along? / Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We have a brand new album to be released May 2018!
Any plans to hit the road?/ What else is happening next in Handmade Moments´ world?
We will tour across the USA with our new tunes and then head to Europe in the fall. After that, back to the studio! We have more songs to record!
