Simon Doom Premieres Video for “Lucifer The Light Bearer”; Announce New East and West Coast Tour Dates!

Simon Doom launched a new chapter in their creative journey this week with the release of “Lucifer The Light Bearer” – an indie anthem with a contemporary twist on classic surf rock and new wave nostalgia. “Lucifer The Light Bearer” is built around shimmering, lofi guitars and driving percussion over which frontman and primary songwriter, Simon O’Connor, lays down an infectious hook that brings enough warmth to thaw out some of the New York winter cold.

The video for “Lucifer The Light Bearer”, which premiered today on BandsinTown, was co-directed by acclaimed visual artists Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe, who recently teamed up with underground rock legend Jennifer Herrema (Royal Trux, Black Bananas) to create an immersive exhibition and adjoining film entitled “Scenario in the Shade” for Red Bull Studios in Chelsea. This new video features Notable cameos by Eleanor Friedberger, Cory Kennedy, and Joey Frank. The visual accompaniment of “Lucifer The Light Bearer” will be part of a larger installation that Freeman and Lowe are working on to celebrate the opening Juku, the newest restaurant from noted chef, Kazuo Yoshida, in the Five Points District of New York City. Watch “Lucifer The Light Bearer” now on YouTube.

Quote from Simon Doom Regarding the Video:

“I have been a huge fan of Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe’s work for a long time, and was very excited to get to know them. We have collaborated in the past, and when they expressed interest in making a video for this song I couldn’t have been happier.”

“Lucifer The Light Bearer” introduces us to the latest incarnation of the Simon Doom project. Previously more of a solo project from O’Connor, this latest track is  the first time that the rest of the band – Jim Carroll (Clouds, Pure Love) on guitar, William Flynn (formerly of St. Vincent) on bass and Brandon Collins (Apse) on drums  – were included in the writing and record process. “Lucifer The Light Bearer” was recorded at CRC Studios in Brooklyn with engineer/producer Miles Robinson (MGMT, Chairlift, Public Access TV) and shows a tremendous amount of growth since the release of Simon Doom’s critically acclaimed full-length, Babyman, which was released last year with Votiv Music.

As O’Connor puts it:

We really created the song from scratch as a band and Miles’ approach to recording was vastly different than anyone who I had worked with in the past. He brought out the clarity of the instruments and my voice in a way that I never had the guts to before.”

Simon Doom will support Bat Fangs and Beach Creeps for a hometown show at Union Pool in Brooklyn on February 16th before joining Beverly for a date at The Black Cat in Washington DC on February 20th. The band will also be launching an April tour in Los Angeles at The Bootleg Theater that will bring the project’s dynamic live show through California, as well as, the mid and southwestern United States.
