INTERVIEW: Vermillion Road

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey, thanks for having us! We’ve been great although somewhat hectic and busy – but lots of exciting things in the works!  This is Hunter Heurich, by the way -guitarist/songwriter.

Can you talk to us more about your song “Only One”?

This song took a different direction for us. Usually, we write about more in-depth emotional issues like love, heart break or insecurities, but I thought it might be interesting to write a song that’s a little more fun – I’m guessing more than a few people could relate to. It’s a song about waking up in a haze after a crazy party, only to discover that everyone is gone and you’re all alone in a stranger’s house wondering what happened the night before.

Did any event inspire you to write this song?

Oh yes, haha. We’ve all done whacky things in our lives. It was inspired from some personal experiences in college, as well as confessions given up by our fans.  The main chorus continued to haunt me until I pulled over in traffic to write it down.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

Very strong possibility. In fact, you’re scaring me because it’s like you’re reading my mind. Got some great ideas churning in my head.

How was the recording and writing process?

“Only One” was surprisingly easy to write! The first draft of lyrics poured out in less than 10 minutes. It took a little longer to nail the right vibe in the studio, but the extra attention was worth it.

What role does Denver play in your writing?

Living in Denver has definitely influenced our sound, but touring the U.S. also plays a major part.  Denver’s young urban vibe is reflected in our music. The local music scene here is like a family and has a lot of amazing talent that we can’t help but be influenced from – whether we are aware of it or not.

How has OneRepublic and Imagine Dragons influenced your music?

I love Ryan Tedder’s songwriting style, especially how he’s able to write pop songs with real meaning and heart for OneRepublic. We are really inspired by Imagine Dragons’ huge modern production and their big anthemic choruses – we want songs that people can sing along to at the top of their lungs!

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Yes, we will be releasing a 6-song EP. The last couple of songs are in final production currently and we’re ecstatic.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The release date and title are TBA but they will be happening later this spring. Stay tuned!

Any plans to hit the road?

We’ll be hitting the road on April 21st in Arizona for the Rock the Quad Charity Concert at the Tempe Marketplace, and we’ll continue on after that to the Southwestern states. Along the way we will be featured in the 2-day Prescott Valley Music Festival in May. This summer we will be joining Vans Warped Tour, hitting the Midwest and a college tour in September.

What else is happening next in Vermillion Road´s world?

We’re excited to get out in the world and share our new music, connect with our fans and meet new ones along the way! Sharing with our fans is what it’s all about!
