Today sees the UK’s ISLAND unveil new single “Ride.” Blackbook Magazine premiered the track and the band told them, “‘Ride’ really embodies the whole theme of our debut album – the idea of movement and journey was the cornerstone that brought the record together. ‘Ride’ itself is a song about freedom, adventure and the power that comes with being young.” Blackbookcalls the track, “the sort of pensive, melancholy anthem of youth that just might propel them straight into the stratosphere. With its ragged, ratatat rhythm and mournfully chiming guitars, its musically visceral, even chill inducing.”
Led by an emotive, 80s-influenced guitar riff and the impassioned, profound vocal stylings of enigmatic frontman Rollo Doherty, “Ride” epitomizes the simultaneously nostalgic and refreshing sound ISLAND’s devoted followers have grown to love. The single is the third track to be revealed off the band’s forthcoming debut album Feels Like Air which will be released April 6 via the NYC-based Frenchkiss Records. It continues the band’s unstoppable run of successes, including recent single “The Day I Die,” which caused a stir late last year amassing over 538k Spotify streams. Previous to that the band shared “Try.”
Having spent 2017 firmly establishing themselves as ones-to-catch on the live circuit and festival tents, ISLAND’s captivatingly intense shows have truly built the band’s reputation as one of London’s most exciting bands. Before they bring their show to North America this Fall (dates to be announced soon!) they have just announced a headline tour for the UK and Europe. The tour precedes ISLAND’s eagerly anticipated performance at Annie Mac’s AMP event on February 22, 2018 alongside Tom Misch and Tom Tripp.
