INTERVIEW: VEINS

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’re doing well, thank you. We’re gearing up for the release of the new single and Stevie (singer) has just become a dad, so it’s a busy and exciting time.

Can you talk to us more about your song “Blood On My Hands”?

Blood On My Hands is our second single which will be out on the 23rd February. The theme behind the lyrics is a parallel story of ‘love is war’. It’s about rolling with the punches and fighting towards being better.

Did any event inspire you to write this song?

Our songs are usually based on personal experiences; either past or present, or sometimes on people close to us. So whilst a particular event may have sparked the initial idea, the song is an amalgamation of different experiences.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

Yes, we have a video which will be premiering on the 20th February. People can follow us on Facebook for updates on that.

How was the recording and writing process?

I think it might be the first full song we had. It developed from a track Stevie had written when he was between bands but never used. We recorded it with Russ Russell (Napalm Death, The Wildhearts, New Model Army & loads more) at Parlour Studios in Kettering. Russ is an old friend we’ve known for years and worked with in various bands, so it was a lot of fun. He also recorded our first single.

What role does the UK play in your writing?

As we’ve said, a lot of our songs are based on personal experience. Being a U.K band, I think what’s going on around you in society has to have an effect on your writing whether it’s consciously or subconsciously.

How has the XX and Deftones influenced your music?

I wouldn’t say we’re massively influenced by either but our sound has quiet intimate moments, with a sense of atmosphere and space and then full on massive sounding wall of sound rock moments with loads of layers and textures, so to say our sound is somewhere in the middle is an easy get out. Our musical tastes are quite different and so I think our sound is just a result of us pulling them different elements together.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

We are writing for an album and the newer songs are sounding really good. Our plan is to keep at it for a while, so we’ve got more than we need and therefore lots of tracks to choose from.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not yet but we’ve been discussing when to go into the studio, so we can get it booked and give ourselves a target.

Any plans to hit the road?

We’ve been using our time to write but are starting to book some dates for later in the year. Again, if people want to follow us on social media, we’ll keep everyone posted.

What else is happening next in VEINS´ world?

Writing, writing, writing. We want to get an album finished.
