INTERVIEW: Kristin Rebecca

Hi Kristin, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! Thanks so much for this opportunity! I’ve been doing really well.

Can you talk to us more about your new single “Wackos and Weirdos”?

Wackos and Weirdos was written to be a tongue in cheek song about navigating the dating world and all the trials and frustrations that come with it.

Did any event inspire you to write this song?

I was inspired by a series of events that happened fairly close together. I had gone out on a string of terrible dates with different guys over the course of several months. These were the kind of dates where you’ve only been sitting there for 20 mins and it feels like 3 hours. None of these guys ever got a second date with me.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Tentatively, yes. I really want this song to have a video to go with it and I have a visual idea of what I would like it to look like, but right now no date has been set for a shoot. But I would say to keep on the lookout for updates on my Facebook page (kristinrebeccamusic) or Twitter account (@Kristinrebecca1).

How was the recording and writing process?

Usually I go through a few major drafts of my lyrics before the final version of the song ever makes it to anyone’s ears but this one was written in one shot. I made a few small edits as I worked out the melody but the overall wording, structure and idea stayed the same. I think because it was written out of frustration that the idea was very fresh in my mind so what I wanted to say came easily.

Of the tracks I recorded for my record I would say this was one of the easier ones. In the studio, Charlie Pilzer, my co-producer and recording engineer, and I talked about the sound and decided we wanted my acoustic guitar to have a heavy focus. Andy Hamburger then added a nice drum backing and Holly Montgomery added in a great bass part to give the track a real folk pop sound.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Wackos and Weirdos is the first track of my brand-new album. I was in the studio for almost two years working on this record. During that time, I got to work with a lot of talented people, and while it was a long time going in and out of the studio it was definitely worth it and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

My album has just been released and the title is “Tales, Trials, Truths.” I gave the record this title because the 17 tracks are about my personal experiences, observations and musings.  Of the 17 tracks, all are original except two. It is currently available on all digital platforms like iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby & Google Play. It is also available on all streaming services like Spotify. You can get hard copies from me at my shows and I’m looking to open an online store on my website soon.

Any plans to hit the road?

Definitely! Touring and performing is one of my most favorite parts of putting out a record. I have some dates coming up this month and next with more on the way. Also, I am putting together a national tour in support of the album and I’m also hoping to book a few shows in Canada as well.

What else is happening next in Kristin Rebecca´s world?

I’m always writing new songs and I compose short tunes as well. Also, I run several series on my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/kristinrebeccatv ) and I keep up a blog on Tumblr that highlights not only my own life but work of artisans and artists I love as well.
