INTERVIEW: Ashes of Luna

Hi fellows, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Fellows is actually fellow and lady. Lol. We are great though! New year… We call it the Year of the Luna.

Can you talk to us more about your new single “Wild and Free”?

Wild and Free… such a feel good song! We call it dance rock.  You can definitely get down to it but we also hope that people feel an empowerment. An energy.

Did any event inspire you to write this song?

We wrote this song with Matt Bronleewe at his studio in Nashville during the eclipse.   Apparently Nashville was the number one place to witness the eclipse.  This is all by coincidence how it worked out for us to be their during the eclipse. A couple of days after the eclipse we were still buzzing from that amazing experience and decided to incorporate  that buzz into Wild and Free.

Any plans to release a music video for the single?

Probably not for this song. But maybe? Have really decided.

How was the recording and writing process?

We were recording in Nashville for this track with the ever so talented Matt Bronleewe.  We went in saying “let’s try something new that we never tried before.  That is exactly what came out!  It still has a bit of us in it from years prior but with less textural and symphonic elements.  We love the dark undertones that the music layers with the uplifting lyrics.  The fact that you can feel an empowerment while listening and still get down to it is exactly what we were going for.

What role does LA play in your music?

We both lived in or around Los Angeles for many years so of course that will always have some role in how the music comes out. We love Los Angeles and all the talented musicians that make it a great city but in all honesty it can be very cliquey and cut throat.  We take the good and mix it with the unjust.  We try to empower people and living in a huge city like LA you see it all.  So inspiration definetely comes to you. In all forms. In all ways.  From the good to the bad and everything in between.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

We are taking a new approach.   We will be releasing singles as we write and record them.  We don’t like pressure and time constraints of having to release and album in full.  With singles you can take your time and not put so much stress on to get it done.

Any plans to hit the road?

We always are anxious to hit the road.  Let’s see what happens!

What else is happening next in Ashes of Luna´s world?

We are hoping to record as much as we can with Matt in Nashville and like you mentioned going out on the open road and playing for the masses. We are blessed to be able to work with such amazingly gifted people.  You can definitely expect this year to be a good year for the band. Let’s just say that.
