Just a few weeks ahead of the second incarnation of their Love You Down Festival, SWIMM have unveiled “True Romance”, the latest single from their upcoming debut full-length Sentimental Porno. “True Romance”, which premiered this morning alongside an interview about Love You Down with Culture Collide, is a sleek psych pop anthem centered around funky, Tremolo-tinged Rhodes keyboard sent to space and back and a dance-ready groove that perfectly sets the tone for the band’s upcoming celebration of the East LA creative community. You can stream it now on Soundcloud or Spotify and look for it this Spring on the band’s highly anticipated first full-length.
Last year, SWIMM launched the Love You Down Festival as a way to integrate the different artistic communities that may normally exist outside of each other. Love You Down, or LYD as they often refer to it, was a way to pay homage to their peers who inspire the band and to give something back to the fans that have become family in their adopted hometown. The initial incarnation of LYD attracted over 350 attendees and included performances from SWIMM, The Gloomies, Thumpasorious, Goldensuns, LA Font & Vs Colour, as well as DJ sets from Warpaint, Gardens & Villa and Aaron Byrd.
This year, SWIMM will take their celebration of Los Angeles to the next level.
Hailing from the Space Coast region of Florida, Chris Hess (vocals and guitar) and Adam Winn (percussion and harmonica) released their first EP–Feel— in 2013. The following year, the two moved to Los Angeles in one of the most important moves of their life and began work on what would become their 2015 release, the Beverly Hells EP on 24West Records. Beverly Hells would go on to be named on of Buzzband LA’s EP’s of the year and received coverage everywhere from Noisey to Consequence of Sound and Nylon, firmly establishing the band amongst a much larger audience.
The city of Los Angeles is deeply woven into SWIMM’s story. Since relocating to LA, both the beautiful, open-minded side of the city and it’s sometimes vapid plasticity have served as muses for the band’s music. In its creative community, SWIMM’s Chris Hess and Adam Winn have found a family that has propelled them to push the artistic envelope at each turn in their story. They have even added two members of their Los Angeles family, Hany Zayan and Marton Bizits, to the SWIMM lineup. It is for that reason that the band has chosen to place so much time and effort into the Love You Down Festival in order to ensure it is the sort of celebration that the City of Angels (fallen and not) deserves.
