Hey hey, I’ve been very good, the single release is very exciting!
Can you talk to us more about your new single “This Feeling”?
It’s a cool, bright indie pop/rock tune. I think it’s quite catchy and lyrically can be perceived in variation of ways.
Did any event inspire you to write this song?
Not particularly, however it’s about the early stages of developing a desire and ‘feelings’ for someone, so thats something I guess most people have experienced.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
There is a really cool video ready and waiting to be released. I’m not giving too much away about it yet however I can say it was directed by George O’regan who is insanely talented.
How was the recording and writing process?
I wrote the song casually in the back of the car one day and finished it when I got home. It all stemmed from the ‘Get this feeling hook’. I recorded the song some months later with brilliant musicians.
What was it like to work with Pete Dowsett and how did that relationship develop?
I think Pete is great! He really gets the music I listen to as well as the direction I want to go in. He records live instruments so beautifully and is a really great guy to work with.
How much did he influence the album?
Before taking the song to Pete, it was only basic chords and a rough idea of some drum beats. He took the vision in my head and made it possible, his ideas are brilliant.
How did your time on BRIT School has influences your writing?
BRIT has influenced my life in so many ways, from giving me confidence in myself and my music to showing me how to get my voice heard. This song shows exactly the direction I want my music to go in.
What role does London play in your music?
I think London is an amazing and beautiful place. I suppose my music has a very london edge to it, people here are very colourful and unique.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
Who knows… :p
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Not yet, although I’m planning to do a couple more singles first this year.
Any plans to hit the road?
I gig weekly within and outside london. I’d love to go on a bigger tour as soon as I can.
What else is happening next in Natalie Shay´s world?
More gigs, more songs and hopefully playing some cool festivals whilst writing and recording new music in the background.
