Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Try To Get Rid Of Me”?
It’s off or second EP, it’s about a girl who is tired people just using her. She’s calling people out. Sonically we wanted to make a heavy psychedelic record, paying homage to the 60s and 70s
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Speaking from personal experience and friends’ experiences. The whole album is just about bitches getting dogged out.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We are we’re planning on shooting something in February with our friends at Site B Studios. We recently filmed a live video from the third track off the album Feelin’ No Way that’s coming out before the holiday.
The single comes off your new album Feelin’ No Way – what’s the story behind the title?
It’s just a phrase that means you don’t care anymore, not feeling any type of way.
How was the recording and writing process?
We recorded it upstate in Peekskill NY with Punchbug Records, over the course of a couple days. The songs were written a couple months before we went in to record. Usually Aly writes the lyrics and we work together to create the music.
What role does Brooklyn play in your writing?
was born and raised in Brooklyn, there’s a big mix of cultures and music so that shapes the way that I artistically create and write. I grew up with hip hop and R&B, soul, blues, reggae. I take pieces from a lot of different genres and try to fit them into our music. The cultural environment of where I grew up helped shape my writing.
After the success of your previous material – was there any pressure while working on this record?
Not really, it’s all fun for us we enjoy the process of creating music. Each project stands alone and has a different artistic concept.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
From life experience and stories I hear from other women.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes. We plan doing some festivals and going out of the country in the summer.
What else is happening next in Lovehoney’s world?
We just finished our next project, a side a/side b soul and R&B record. It’s in the vein of Beauty in the Struggle, the second track off our first EP Devil Woman. We decided to go in this direction in preparation for a Valentine’s Day release.
