Can you talk to us more about your new video “Echo”?
We just wanted to have a music video that showed all of us in the band very casually and candidly. We loved the aesthetic of how things look on a Super 8, especially how it creates a very nostalgic atmosphere.
Did any event inspire you to write this song?
It started when Audrey was hungry one rehearsal. She gets really feisty when she needs to eat, so that inspired her to redirect those emotions into lyrics, and thus the song was born.
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing process was a lot of fun since we got to experiment with sounds that we hadn’t used in the past, and it really helped us blossom by opening up another layer to the production of our songs. As for recording, we had a little more time compared to recording in the past, so it allowed us to take our time to try new things.
How has the 90s influenced your music?
We are all 90s babies and grew up listening to and growing with the music from the 90s. Each of us has nostalgic attachment to a lot of the 90’s R&B influenced sounds. On the flip side, we love the Alternative Rock bands that became popular in the same era.
Does the new video mean we can expect a new album – how’s your new album coming along?
Yes! The EP is coming along very nicely and will be released early next year. We are very excited about the new songs and can’t wait to share them with everyone. We recorded at Seahorse Studios with the talented Mehdi Hassine and Carlos Gonzalez. We loved the vibe of the place and are stoked on how the raw recordings came out.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
It will be called “Sad Songs for Happy People” and will be coming out early next year!
Any plans to hit the road?
We are always down to travel. We’ve had great opportunities in Austin, Portland, Vegas and Sacramento last year and would love to continue our traveling streak and extend further North and East. Our next Big show is in Sacramento on December 23rd for the Sactown Throwdown at the Holy Diver. It’s going to be a hoot.
What else is happening next in Mleo’s world?
The grind is always going, and we are eager to write new songs and create more videos for our current music. It is a process that is always turning. Come see more at @mleoband on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube!
