Austrian rising talent LEYYA, recently released their new single “Drumsolo” via NOISEY, to be taken from their upcoming album Sauna (out 1/26/18).
An offbeat, indie gem that experiments with different layers of sound, combining textures of indie rock, electronica, jazz and rnb, the duo arrive today with the surreal visuals via Pigeons and Planes. The song, while playful and colorful, harks at an understated emotional glamour, with captivating instrumentals that are the perfect vehicle for the wistful vocals.
“’Drumsolo’ is one of our favourite tracks of the new album,” the band say of the track. “On the one hand, it’s very complex (at one point it doesn’t even make sense ‘music theoretically’). But, on the other hand, the melody is very catchy so you don’t notice its quirkiness, that’s what we always wanted our tracks to be like: different layers to discover depending on the listener’s mood.”
The duo, comprised of Sophie Lindinger and Marco Kleebauer, have been riding a wave of success – which seemingly came to life of its own accord. Their debut album Spanish Disco was the catalyst – creating a cause and effect whirlwind of huge festival dates and radio play, as well as television and film performances. Hit single “Superego” quickly racked up nearly 3 million streams on Spotify.
Their ensuing trail among Europe’s tastemaker festivals included shows at The Great Escape (Brighton, UK), Liverpool Sound City (Liverpool, UK), Tallinn Music Week (Tallinn, EE), PrimaveraSound (Barcelona, SP) and Electronic Beats at Reeperbahn Festival (Hamburg, DE) – before finally headlining Popfest (Vienna, AT) back home, where they played to a crowd of 20,000 in front of the famous Karlskirche in Vienna’s beautiful City Centre. LEYYA’s performance at Iceland Airwaves was called one of the “most exciting” on display by Consequence of Sound; while Musikexpress was similarly enthusiastic about their show at Eurosonic Nooderslag, calling it “The best concert of this year’s Eurosonic Festival.”
Leyya will be building on their live success performing at numerous festivals across Europe in 2018 and are looking forward to playing to US audiences in at SXSW 2018. Stay tuned for more dates to be announced.
With Austria’s most esteemed music prize – an AmadeusMusicAward under their belts, LEYYA have proved that they don’t rely on tried and tested patterns, but always develop their sound in order to stay fresh, modern and relevant.
