Rising pop artist CYN premiered her official video for the Felix Snow-produced single “Only With You.” Praising the video today.
Directed by Kylie Eaton in collaboration with SOAP, the tongue-in-cheek video sees CYN perfectly play the part of a delightfully quirky, slightly unhinged character. “At the time, I was watching the George Harrison documentary on Netflix, George Harrison: Living in the Material World.” CYN explains of the inspiration behind the video. In that documentary there’s a clip of a man with Mick Jagger talking about female fans, he goes on to say: “This is largely an appeal to the feminine heart, the heart of the young girl, who worships the goddess of love and the heroes of love. And this plays a dominant part of her life. So the vast majority of the fans are girls, who come to worship at the shrine of the goddess, or the young god hero, as they did in the ancient past.” For whatever reason, this little dialogue spoke to me. I remember what it felt like to be enthralled with admiration for movie stars and singers while I was growing up. This love obsession is a very real feeling for the youth, and I wanted to let it inspire me.”
Since its release in September, “Only With You” was praised by the likes of W Magazine and was added as the #1 track on V Magazine’s weekly playlist. The song has been making waves on Spotify, landing on their US New Music Friday, Out Now and Left of Center playlists, and charting in the Top 50 on Spotify’s U.S Viral Chart. The song serves as the follow up to CYN’s buoyant summer release “Together,” which was hailed by The Fader, as a “breath of fresh air.” “Only With You” is out worldwide now on iTunes, Apple and Spotify via Katy Perry’s record label Unsub Records.
Written by CYN and producer extraordinaire Felix Snow (Selena Gomez, Kiiara, Terror Jr.), “Only With You” is an early standout track for the young artist. Following a chance meeting with label founder Katy Perry, who instantly fell in love with the burgeoning popstar’s voice and her keen ability to craft a perfect pop song, CYN signed to Unsub Records in 2016.
Speaking about how the new track came to be, CYN explains “I knew who Felix was and loved the songs he worked on previously, so I was geeked to work with him. We wrote and recorded the song in North Hollywood. At the time, Felix was still working out of his living room. The song began on acoustic guitar and evolved to be some kind of hybrid, electronic funk pop vibe. We recorded vocals in a closet-turned vocal booth with no light. The vocals on the final track are the vocals from day one, which is something really special, I think. Overall, we wrote this song in probably 3 hours!”
Born into a humble middle-class home in Michigan, outside of Detroit, CYN (née Cynthia Nabozny) moved from Chicago to Los Angeles last year where she has spent much of 2017 working hard, writing and recording new material. Now, with two incredible songs out in the world and 3 SOLD OUT live shows opening for BØRNS under her belt, CYN remains one of the most exciting new artists to emerge from 2017, ready to show the world what this Mid-western girl is made of.
