HEGAZY Premieres New Single + Video For “Here To Stay”

Leila & Omnia Hegazy, the twin sisters who make up the indie-soul/pop duo HEGAZY has teamed up with PopMatters to premiere their second single “Here To Stay” off of their upcoming debut EP today! The new track and video are available to listen to and watch here: http://bit.ly/2zPsSWw.

The track references the xenophobia that has become normalized in our current political climate, and pokes fun at all of the stereotypes people have about immigrants. The chorus and song title is a direct reference to the #HereToStay movement centered on immigrant rights and the removal of DACA.

On the song and video, HEGAZY states, “We are first generation Arab-American women who grew up Muslim in the age of 9/11 and we know what it’s like to be treated as ‘the other.’ We decided to take our president’s fear-mongering rhetoric and flip it on its head to be empowering. Yes, we are coming, we’re here to stay, and we are what America looks like, whether you like it or not.”

HEGAZY is set to release their debut EP in early 2018, entitled Young. The 4-track EP surrounds the idea of young adults struggling to find their way in the crazy times we live in, with the overarching theme of the coming of age. It’s a testament to their experiences as millennials.

The twins, native to New York, create infectious pop melodies with a touch of soul with their silky harmonies, driving guitars, and smoky keyboards. Their songs focus on finding love, purpose, and meaning in a climate of economic and political uncertainty. They fused their careers as solo artists back in 2015 after the passing of their father, who always insisted they were stronger together.

Young is set to be released in early 2018. For more information, please visit: http://hegazyband.com/.
