INTERVIEW: Underground Authority

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi, we have been great, just released another single here in India, called “Boatman,” available on our  Youtube Channel, which is doing really well. Our song “Sundays At the Park” is getting a lot of traction everywhere and it feels amazing to be on the receiving end of so much support and love. Also, Thank you for featuring us on your magazine.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Sundays At Park”?

It’s one of our first songs. It reflects a time when we were four guys trying to express ourselves through our music and over the years, whenever we have played it live, it has imparted a feel good vibe. The song has a lot of positivity in it and is written with a lot of heart. We are very happy about the fact that this particular song made it and people like it so much.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

We love playing live; playing in front of an audience has it’s own high and even after years of playing on stage, we still love that energy when we are onstage. “Sundays at the Park,” brings out that feeling of playing or aspiring to play in front of a live audience. The song is also about believing in yourself and pursuing your dreams.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Oh yes! Sooner than you think!

How was the recording and writing process?

The entire song got sort of a make over, when Monte Malone and Ryan Benyo from A&R Worldwide met us in Mumbai. The song was written a while back, but the arrangement and certain sections were worked out over the matter of a day. It was our first time working with professional producers and the experience was great. In fact, some the positivity we had in the studio kind of gets reflected in the song as well.

What role does India play in your writing?

We believe in writing about things that affect us and we have never been outside our country. Yes, the subjects we deal with in our songs are definitely global in nature but they are also based on our experiences. We are very thorough about our research and keep ourselves updated about current affairs and right now everyone is connected to people from everywhere but our country, its people, its culture play a huge role in our music.

How has Rage Against The Machine and Guns N’ Roses influenced your writing?

RATM has definitely been a huge influence on the band as a whole; we got the courage to write about real stuff and politics from them. Some of our songs are very political in nature and that definitely comes from RATM, also the whole idea about exploding on stage and performing with all you have got also stems from them. We are very influenced by their live gigs and try and generate the same energy in our live performances. Guns n Roses has had more of a personal influence on us, we grew up listening to GnR and a lot of other artists like, Eminem, NWA, KRS-One, Bryan Adams, loads of 80s Hair Metal bands, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, Snoop Dogg, Megadeth, Metallica, Flobots, RHCP, Porcupine Tree, Matisyahu, and a ton of others.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Yes of course, a total of 5 songs have been recorded and we are eagerly awaiting the release of the other songs. Apart from that, new songs are uploaded every week on our Youtube Channel.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We are not sure about the date and well, our first album, released here in India was called YOU-AUTHORITY and our second EP was called Propaganda, so we are still thinking of the name of this one and well, since this is going to be released globally, we really want to make a statement.

Any plans to hit the road?

We are always on the road doing gigs here in India. However, we hope we can bag an international tour soon.

What else is happening next in Underground Authority’s world?

Underground Authority is all about making music to express and not to impress, we believe in making a statement and also try and inspire other people to stand up for themselves and pursue what they love. We are always thinking about what to write about and our fans and friends support us a lot. Music is everything to us as it is our means to reach out and inspire and motivate our audience. We try and release a song every week on our YouTube channel and interact with our fans as much as we can on Facebook and other Social Media platforms. Our music, our fans mean everything to us and we intend to carry on in full throttle.
