INTERVIEW: Danielle Bellas

Hi Danielle, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great, thank you! The sun is shining in Australia and life is good 🙂

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Starship”?

Starship has a laid back, R&B vibe, and speaks about that time in a relationship when when things get a bit dull, you know, when the magic seems to have been lost and you’ve both stopped trying, so it’s on a downward spiral. In the song I’m reminiscing about ‘the good old days’ and how I still want to be with the person, but I want the spark and the romance back, and I’m not willing to quit on the relationship.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I wasn’t going through anything at the time of writing the song, but I’ve definitely been in a situation like that (I would think a lot of people have!), so I could relate when we were writing it.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, we shot it this week and it’s currently being edited. I’m excited to see it!

How was the recording and writing process?

It was a lot of fun. I wrote and recorded it in Glasgow with my producers Jud Mahoney and Natalie DeLucia. I flew over on my own and couldn’t wait to get cracking! I’ve known Jud for years and worked with him before, so it was just like hanging with a couple of friends and creating some awesome music! I love being in the vocal booth and there were so many harmonies to layer up which is one of my favourite bits to do, so I was in heaven!

How does Australia influenced your music?

Moving across the other side of the world was quite a freeing experience, that enabled me to explore more of myself, work out what I want in life and really step into who I wanted to be, so it has definitely influenced my music, and my life! The new people I’ve met, the experiences I’ve had and the personal development work I’ve done over here have all influenced my writing and my musical journey.

What is it about the 90s that you enjoy so much?

Everything! The music, the artists around at that time, the fashion, the TV shows…ha! I love it all! It’s the period that really influenced me and made me start to dream about being an artist.

How’s your new album coming along?

I’m super excited about the album, it’s sounding incredible (if I do say so myself!) and I’m really happy with it. It’s a mixture of some of my biggest influences – 90’s R&B and Motown and I am very excited to get it out into the World.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

If all goes to plan, I’m hoping to release it mid-2018. I have a few singles that I want to get out there first, but 2018 will see my album, for sure! I have a title in mind, yes, but things can change, so I’m not giving anything away just yet!

Any plans to hit the road?

Definitely! I’m really excited about doing some live shows and I’m thinking early 2018 to kick them off…so watch this space!

What else is happening next in Danielle Bellas’ world?

Well, there will be some awesome remixes of Starship to be released, my video is also still to come, and then we’ll start work on the second single and looking into those live shows. It’s all go, go go and I’m loving it!
