Can you talk to us more about your new single “Can´t Stop Loving You”?
“Can’t Stop Loving You,” was a demo that came to me from my producer Justin Gray. It stood out in the crowd of many demos I listened to for my ten-song album. I choose the song because it was very relatable, especially with my personal life at the time. I fell in love with the harmonies and the way the sound captured the listener from start to finish. I told myself, this needs be a track on the album. It’s been performing quiet well on country radio so I think listeners and my fans are also finding it relatable.
Did any event inspire you to write this song?
This song was written for me by a group of writers in Nashville. I was lucky enough to have it as an option for the album, and I’m really glad I got to record it.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
How was the recording and writing process?
With my producer, Justin Gray, being in LA, I recorded the track in both LA and Toronto. We recorded in a basement studio that had this beautiful view of a garden, and was full of candy. I couldn’t have asked for a better recording session. When recording an album, you are living and breathing only music for those weeks; it’s a beautiful time in an artist’s life. I love the memories you make when you give a piece of yourself to the album you create.
What was it like to work with Justin Gray and how did that relationship develop?
He’s amazing, he became my best friend. He opened a side of me I wasn’t, and I guess that’s what you can hope for in a producer. He’s very relatable as a person, with a kind, warm and welcoming personality. The experience was one I will never forget.
How much did he influenced the album?
He had a huge influence on the album, because he was able to bring out a side of me that someone else probably couldn’t have done. It wouldn’t have been the same sound on the album. He brought a unique sound to the table, one that I haven’t yet heard in the world of country pop. Justin Gray has produced some world renown songs and records, and this is, I’d like to think, a record for the books.
After the success of your previous album, were you any nervous while working on the new music since?
It’s always a challenge to do better and bigger. The music industry is so exciting and is always changing, introducing new and different artists to the world. You constantly challenge yourself to create something better every time, to attract new fans to the music and to build your audience in the diverse world of music.
How has Shania Twain and Johnny Cash influenced your music?
Shania is daring and bold and sticks to her guns, while Johnny is an outlaw, that represented such strength and great poetry in the change of music. I feel as though Shania Twain and Johnny Cash are pieces to the puzzle that helped build the name of country music. They both played an important role in influencing my music career and building how I wanted to express myself as an artist.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I have a complete album, hoping to release it this winter. It’s a ten-track album that will be released under ILS (Independent Label Services Group), a Toronto-based international entertainment distributor and marketing company for Caroline International, a division of Universal Music Group. I’m really hoping to make both fans and my label proud of this record.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Any plans to hit the road?
I hope to hit the road end of this winter to promote the release of the new album. We are still finalizing details, so can’t say a date just yet.
What else is happening next in Jade Mya’s world?
