Hi Leo, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey, thank you for having me! I’ve been well. Good vibes at the moment.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Error”?
Well, it sort of came about in the midst of making something different to what I’d been working on previously. I just remember sitting in my room going “Fuck, this sounds crazy!” and my friends seemed to dig it so I finished it up.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I think the whole new wave of trap music as a movement and as a sound inspired me a lot with Error. One thing that really drove me to finish the tune was when I heard local DJs playing out an early demo version and people were going nuts. I get a good feeling knowing people appreciate my music enough to play it in their own DJ sets.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Not yet. Definitely something I aim for with future releases! I’d really like to tell a story not just through sound but also visuals. In some ways, the visuals are almost as important as the music.
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording and writing process was relatively quick like most of my tunes so far. Most of the time I come up with an idea & flesh it out with a decent structure so I at least have a rough demo to DJ out in clubs with. Later on, I’ll add finishing touches, extra details and what not.
Known for blending different styles – how do you balance them together? Does one genre tends to shine out the most depending on the track’s theme?
Balancing it all together is hard but I do it by having focus in all areas of the song. The intro or before the drop, I want to take listeners on a bit of a journey and then in the drop, I try to take it to the most amplified level of energy I can. It sound super corny but thats essentially what I’m trying to achieve with my music, sonically. In terms of genres that shine out, that kind of depends on the track.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
This year I’ve been writing like crazy. I’ve written 80-90 tracks this year so I guess at some point, I’ll release an album.
Any plans to hit the road?
Well, I just got back from playing a show in Brisbane which was insane. They’re crazy about bass music over there so it’s a treat playing a set to them. Hopefully going back to play some more shows very soon!
What else is happening next in Leotrix’s world?
My first like “REAL” official remix is in the works. I’m putting a lot of energy and focus into that right now. I’m also collaborating with some bigger artists at the moment like LAXX and Enschway which is just super exciting.
