INTERVIEW: Geo Gabriel

© 2010

Hi Geo, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m great thank you, thanks for having me!!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single Destiny?

My latest single Destiny is about my life as an artist, life on the road, what I get up to, bright lights different cities and tours, plane hopping, making music and performing it in different places around the world, finding love. I’m letting people know who I am by bringing them into my world.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I guess being in the music game for a number of years and having done the things I’ve done in music It felt it was right to put pen to paper and express myself.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

It’s on my to do list, I’ve spent my time focusing on songwriting and production of my project.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process for this song was quick from the melodic stand point and lyrically. Production wise I drew inspiration from one of my favourite producers Quincy Jones that’s because I wanted a big clean sound, his work on Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall album I find absolutely amazing. In terms of songwriting, my inspiration came from Michael Jackson, Nat King Cole and jazz pianist Bill Evans

Having backup and worked so many iconic names in the scene – what have you learned from those experiences?

I’ve learnt talent ain’t enough for the journey!!! Watching these artists at work, I  had the opportunity to see how strong their work ethics are and a professional attitude goes a long way. Lastly, a nice attitude will get you places, as the saying goes ‘it’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice’

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else than when you are writing in your own?

Most definitely, when I’m collaborating it’s not just about me the song has to compliment me and the person I’m working with, when I’m working on my solo tracks the songs are tailor made for me.

How has Stevie Wonder and Prince influenced your writing?

Stevie Wonder has influenced me with his use of melodies both in his songwriting and vocal delivery, Stevie Wonder’s choice of notes when singing are second to none!! His use of jazz and soul in his music also influenced me. Prince the genius influenced with his raw, edgy eclectic  sound, his word playing in his songs is total genius!! Both geniuses have influenced my music in great ways.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Yes, it’s coming along very nicely, a couple more tracks to complete then the album will be finished.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I will be releasing in the earlier part of 2018, as for the title I’m still deciding on one.

Any plans to hit the road?

We will be planning to do so next year.

What else is happening next in Geo Gabriel’s world?

Me and my team Infinity7Music are holding an End Of Year Music Compilation Party at The Joint in King’s Cross on 15th December. There will be live music from myself and Team ‘O’ with full live band, support performance from the world HipHop Dance Champions and there will be free cupcake and Prosecco for the first 25 people, because it’s a ticketed event everyone who buys a ticket will receive an Infinity7Music compilation of 10 tracks. It’s going to be a night of great music, high energy in an electric atmosphere.
