‘Better In Yellow’ is an uplifting slice of bluesy Americana, which finds the pair adding big brass notes into their mix of guitar licks and beautiful harmonies.
Regarding the single Ferris & Sylvester say, “We had so much fun working on ‘Better In Yellow’. We liked the idea of writing about yellow being a positive state of mind, happy and vibrant, instead of settling for greyness. It can be easy to wear black and blend in. Sometimes though, it’s best to be yourself, put on some clashy colours and not care too much. Like all the songs on our upcoming EP, ‘Better In Yellow’ was recorded in our kitchen with our favourite musicians. It’s part of a collection of songs that represent a defining moment in time for us, so it was only right to record it our way in our South London flat.”
‘Better In Yellow’ follows the recent release of Made In Streatham lead single ‘The Room’, which is a beautiful piece of autobiographical Americana, detailing the pair’s life in Streatham, London. Both songs are available now for download with pre-orders of the EP.
Elsewhere on the Made In Streatham EP is the stunningly frank love song ‘Sometimes’, while Ferris & Sylvester are found enlisting a superbly expansive string section on ‘Loser’ as they address cheating partners. The pair close the EP with finger clicks and vocal rounds on ‘London Blues’, with a sound that’s pulled straight from the Deep South with slide guitar and walking basslines.
The Made In Streatham EP follows the release of the band’s debut EP The Yellow Lineearlier this year. It saw the pair topping Rolling Stone Magazine’s 10 New Artists You Need To Know list, while also receiving praise from The Independent and gaining great support from BBC Radio 2 and BBC Introducing. The early high profile acclaim surrounding Ferris & Sylvester proves they are one of the most impressive and exciting new singer/songwriter talents on the UK scene.
Ferris & Sylvester have announced a London headline show in support of the forthcoming EP. They will be playing at Battersea Arts Centre on January 11th. Tickets are available now here.
