“Mutations” is the latest single from the Toronto based hip-hop group. On this spaced out, laid back beat, Odario (of Grand Analog) and Posdnuos (of De La Soul) explore the changes of the world, and themselves, with effortless bars and style. “Mutations” is a song about the idea of time itself, and signifies Grand Analog’s continued growth as artists and songwriters. Their forthcoming EP Survival features talented guests such as Shad, A Tribe Called Red, Clairmont The Second, Adaline and Posdnuos of De La Soul. The Survival EP is an ode to “golden era hip-hop”, with beats that are soaked in J Dilla influences and plenty of head-nodding funk. Their upcoming EP Survival is the group’s most refined work to date, channeling their influences from multiple decades to produce a must-hear EP.
Grand Analog is a group of record collectors, musicians and self described beat junkies. You can easily find any of the GA crew DJing at various clubs around Toronto. The Grand Analog sound is a beautiful mess of rap’n’roll, dub ‘n’soul. Each personality in this collective brings something unique to the table. Odario and DJ Ofield blame their father, a reggae DJ from the 80s, for cursing them with the love of
music, bass and trouble. Warren Bray is the secret sauce on bass, TJ Garcia trips the light fantastic behind his drum kit and Aubrey McGhee is the sonic adventurer on saxophone. Grand Analog is Canada’s number one live hip-hop band, constantly being compared to the likes of The Roots, Mos Def and Roots Manuva. The band’s critically acclaimed albums, “Modern Thunder”, “Metropolis Is Burning” and “Calligraffiti”, boast an infectious array of soundscapes. Grand Analog’s restless feet inspire an extensive touring schedule. The live show adds soul to the bloodline along with frequent stage jams and off the wall spontaneity. Over the last nine years, Grand Analog has left its mark on prestigious showcases and festivals such as the Great Escape Festival, SXSW, the Reeperbahn Festival, CMJ, Pop Montreal, the Halifax Pop Explosion and CMW plus sharing stages with such artists as the Roots, Little Dragon, the Herbaliser, Big Boi and UB40.
