Principal Photography is now underway on the new film from iconic Canadian director Bruce McDonald (HELLIONS, WEIRDOS). The film, DREAMLAND, marks the inaugural production for the partnership recently announced by producer Rob Merilees and D Films Corp. Starring Stephen McHattie (BORN TO BE BLUE), Juliette Lewis (NATURAL BORN KILLERS), Tómas Lemarquis (BLADE RUNNER) and Black Flag’s Henry Rollins (HE NEVER DIED), DREAMLAND is a surreal, darkly comedic vision that follows a veteran, reluctant hitman as he chases his jazz legend doppelganger around a mysterious city populated by street urchins, a vampire, and a diabolical underworld kingpin.
Penned by cult writers Tony Burgess and Patrick Whistler, the film will be distributed in Canada by D Films and is currently slated for a 2018 theatrical release. DREAMLAND will be shooting in both Belgium and Luxembourg, a Canadian co-production with both countries. The producers behind the feature include Amber Ripley (Goodbye Productions, Canada), Jesus Gonzalez (Calach Films, Luxembourg), and Sebastian Schelenz (Velvet Films, Belgium).
“Bruce is a Canadian legend and it’s a thrill to be working with him,” stated Ripley. “Tony and Patrick’s script is a masterful combination of darkness and humor and I’m excited to see it brought to life by this amazing cast.”
“Once in a while, in this movie game, we connect with people who are stars – and we are inspired to create just the right movie for them. This one is for the great Stephen McHattie” – Bruce McDonald, Commander of the Northern Tribes.
The film is Executive Produced by Rob Merilees, Michael Robson, Jim Sherry, Morris Ruskin and Joseph Chen and International Sales will be handled by Shoreline Entertainment. Financiers include Telefilm Canada, Film Fund Luxembourg, Fortis Film Fund, Wallimage and BE TV with development support from Telefilm Canada and Creative BC.
