INTERVIEW: Sister Shotgun

Hi, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thank you for having us! We’ve been great.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Silhouettes”?

Sure! Silhouettes was the first song we wrote for our EP ‘Devour’ and we wanted to write something really melodic and anthemic but the lyrics are really conceptual. It’s centred around a woman that’s been kidnapped by a serial killer and is planning her escape.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Not really but I’m so inspired by horror films and I really wanted to paint a picture and tell a an emotional and unsettling story with this song

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

It was hot! We picked the hottest day of the year to film in a location with no ventilation so we would film one performance take and have to take a couple of minutes to cool off and re do our make up before we got back to do the next take. We filmed the concept stuff a little later in the day when it had cooled off a little so that was a lot more comfortable. It was really fun to get into the acting side though and really bringing this story to life. It was a long but incredibly fun day.

How was the recording and writing process?

Writing was stressful as it always is with us. We’re a band full of perfectionists so to write a song we’re all happy with takes a lot of work but we’re all so proud of the songs. Recording was amazing though. We recorded in Cardiff at Longwave studios with Romesh Dodangoda, who I think is one of the best rock and metal producers out there. He always pushes us to get the best performance and really understands our sound so we had a great time recording with him.

How has Bullet For My Valentine and Killswitch Engage influenced your writing?

We love the way these two bands write. We love the different chords they use, the way they structure their songs and they way they marry the heavy and melodic elements to create something really epic sounding.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

It does! We’re currently writing our debut album. We have about 5 songs that we’re working on. We are so enjoying writing at the moment. We are adding some new elements and really trying to evolve our sound.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not right now. We’re hoping for a winter 2018 release but we’re only at the early stages of writing right now. As far as titles go, I have a couple of titles in my head but it kind of depends on the direction the album takes when it’s finished.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! Lots of plans. We’ve got some plans for a few U.K. Tours next year and we have a couple of awesome shows to round off the end of 2017. So just keep an eye on our social media in the next few months.

What else is happening next in Sister Shotgun’s world?

Lots of writing and lots of touring. We want to try and bring our show to as many cities as possible next year!
