Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Things Change, Things Change”?
Ahhh Things Change, Things Change. It’s a sick record *smiles*. The second track off the ‘Time Will Tell’ mixtape. I recorded that song with a queen called Carmy Love, she’s a talented singer like real talented, she made that track come to life but yeah it’s hit.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yeah, a thousand. Always something inspires everything I write. This one though was a relationship with one of my closest dudes, but he took a different path, a humble lifestyle with his girl, (recites lyrics) “I tried to get through to ya, should’ve done it sooner but the word has a rumour that you moved out with your yout and got a Mrs”, and then naturally we drifted. But I’m happy for him progressing, it hurts that we aren’t as close as we once we’re you know. My guy. but it’s love unconditional
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
Insightful. Filming never, ever! goes to plan *laughs* but that’s the natural element you know, I sit at home thinking this is how it’s gonna go, we’re gonna film this part here then it’s gonna transition into this and the second verse we’ll film here and the chorus there, add our socials at the end and boom that’s the video.. to the contrary completely (chuckles) but it works either way. I love working like directing, editing, for honesty, I don’t know anything about anything but I gotta be involved in everything.
The single comes off your new album Time Will Tell – what’s the story behind the title?
I was thinking, over-thinking, what can I do, what do I call it? I was like nah it means this but that at the same time, tryna overcomplicate it. I hit a brick wall and I said you know what P just make the music, write and record, the rest will take care of itself. Then it clicked during the last few recording sessions, it added up – I’ve only got a matter of ‘time’, and if I use my ‘will’ as I’m supposed to, the rest will ‘tell’ for itself *smiles*.
How was the recording and writing process?
I love writing, love it, love it. I’m old school with it, you know how most people write on a phone and that, nah I wanna feel that contact, I feel like I’m painting a picture, I’m Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet. The recording? Me and Stuttz, we were up in the studio till the morning for like a week straight and just banged it out
What aspect of change and growth did you get to explore on this record?
I got to explore the power of words as an artist, that’s real power. Words, you know. They say life and death is in the tongue. Everything here, this *circles finger around* was all from the ‘Let there be light.. and there was light’ – that’s deep, like there’s real power in words yo. I witnessed personal change aswell, well as far as me developing into a man, relationships, close friends and females, where I gotta go in life. Life, that’s a real one, I see where the world’s heading, I just know now what it is I gotta do while I’m still here.
Any plans to hit the road?
Like Sun Tzu on a battlefield *chuckles*. Always, always strategizing. I say more, more, more. I just want more and want to do more. More of everything, more real. I really wanna make my mark, so we’re going in for 100 and 1 this time, no less.
What else is happening next in Patrin’s world?
Growth. That’s all I ask for, I wanna grow. Make mistakes, learning. I’m still 25 and if God continues to bless me with more breath, I truly wanna make a change, a better change- honestly.
