INTERVIEW: New Orleans band Water Seed

Hi, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I have been great.  Hopefully you’re doing pretty good as well.

Can you talk to us more about your new video and song “Open Sesame”?

We just released our new album We Are Stars and Open Sesame was the first song that was completed.  We basically built the whole project around that song.  The video is actually a live performance of the song. We think you’ll like it.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Well it’s a song about coming into self.  Basically realizing that you are more than good enough to accomplish all the things that are important to you.  Bring your inner light to the forefront and shine.  So maybe it wasn’t inspired by an event but more of a concept or state of mind.

How was the recording and writing process?

We write a lot of songs.  We usually come up with the basic idea then we hash out the arrangement in rehearsals.  We recorded the entire band live then recorded vocals and additional horns in post production.  I probably enjoyed this process more than any other method that we have used in the past.

How has your upbringing have influence your music?

You name it and we listen to it.  Most of us have our roots in jazz but those roots are mixed with several other styles and genres. Jazz-Rock, Jazz-Classical, Jazz-Funk.  I guess when you think about it music is just music and we appreciate all of it.

Do you have a new project in the works – how’s that coming along?

Funny enough this live version of Open Sesame is the probably the start of a live album project.  One of the places we shine is on the stage, so the if we decide to go in that direction we are excited about giving fans something that we think they will enjoy.

Any tentative release date or title in mind for the project?

We know that we will be releasing in the spring but no definite date or name at this time.   We Are Stars is available on iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify etc.

You do a lot of touring, how is the current tour coming along?

We do tour a lot.  We just wrapped up a 3 month summer U.S. Tour.  Presently we are doing shows during the week in New Orleans mixed and weekend dates on the road.  Our main focus right now is pre-production for our next project and our eyes are set on getting some Grammy attention.  It’s a non-stop process but we love it.

What else is happening next in Water Seed’s world?

We have lots of amazing things coming down the road.  We have just started getting our spring tour schedule together as well as lining up an international tour. We have few other really special things slated for early next year that I can’t really say to much about.
