INTERVIEW: Sages

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’ve been well. Thank you guys for having us!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Matter of Time”?

Sure. It’s available via most digital distributors; Spotify, Itunes, Apple Music, Bandcamp, etc. We also just released the video for it and you can check that out on our Youtube channel.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Well, I’ll speak for myself [Dino Vidovich] only here.. this doesn’t necessarily reflect the beliefs of the rest of the band, but for me, as the one who wrote the lyrics, what inspired my contribution to this song was the fact that more and more people are seeing through the bullshit and deception of our corrupt and broken system. A lot of us are realizing that many of the stories we’ve been told and continue to be told by our highly biased and controlled media, puppet politicians, corrupt world leaders, etc., is a bunch of agenda-pushing bullshit, with corporate interest at hand, and it’s all controlled by the owners of this joint who are only concerned about their personal financial gain and expansion of power. They use the media to constantly instill fear into people so we support more of their wars, less freedom, and more regulation by the governments that they administer. We’re constantly being told what to believe and what not to believe, and from my understanding of history.. beliefs have been the premise of all war and division on the planet since day one. So, I don’t want to believe… I want to know. And what I do know is, regardless what political party we identify with, what religion, gender, race, occupation, or any other form of arbitrary separatist identification we attach to, the essence in you; the essence in me, is indeed, one. It’s our ego’s that create the illusion of separation, because it’s the ego that compares itself to everything; it’s what identifies with all the labels and titles that separate us from everyone else, and it’s this ego-driven mindset that created and continues to create the madness and illusion of separation a lot of us are living in right now. Which leads me to the overall message I wanted to convey in the song…The truth is coming out despite the overwhelming amount of control and misdirection, and it’s only a matter of time until we see a major shift in the collective consciousness of this planet. I feel it. This is an exciting time to be alive!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We actually just released the video for this song a few days ago. It’s on our Youtube channel.

How was the recording and writing process?

The way this song was written was totally organic and a collective effort. We all went into the rehearsal room together and just grinded out riffs and arrangements until the song was done a few hours later. That was it. I wish I had a more interesting story for you, haha. But yeah, and the recording process was just as simple. Compared to a lot of the older songs, this one is a lot more straightforward, the arrangement is super simple, there aren’t too many variations in tones and dynamics, haha, we just went in there, whipped out the goods really quick, and called it a day. It was a lot of fun.

How has Deftones and Saosin influenced your writing?

Haha, I must say Deftones and Saosin are pretty frequent references we get and I think it’s the coolest thing! It’s such a compliment! Both of those bands are HUGE influences.

What role does Sacramento play in your writing?

Well, some of our favorite bands are conveniently from of Sacramento. Deftones… obviously, Far, The Revolution Smile.. I was actually a huge fan of Matt’s old band- Simon Says… There’s definitely a Sacramento sound that we’ve all been influenced by and it’s reflected in our music for sure.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

It does. And it’s coming along great. I don’t have a release date or anything like that yet, but we’re definitely working on a new album and it’s probably safe to say it’ll be coming out in the first quarter of 2018. We’ll see!

Any tentative release date or title in mind? Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, absolutely. Spring and Summer 2018 is looking like it’s going to be a busy time for us.

What else is happening next in Sages’ world?

More than I can say at the moment, unfortunately, but lots of exciting things are in the works, I promise! Next year is going to be a big one for us, and I can’t wait to share some of the exciting developments that are sitting on our plate right now.
