INTERVIEW: DYNAMOS

HOW WOULD YOU CLASSIFY YOUR MUSIC?

We are a progressive American rock band. We are influenced by many genres. We take those influences and make it rock.

WHO ARE YOUR TOP 5 INFLUENCES?

I enjoy, appreciate and respect the techniques of Otis Redding, Debbie Harry, Edith Piaf, Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin. What I am inspired by most of all is the song itself, the performance and the message of the song.

WHAT DO YOU WANT FANS TO TAKE FROM YOUR MUSIC?

I want them to feel how much I care for them. I am a fan of people and community and I want all to feel welcome, safe and accepted. Our music expresses the human condition, the daily ups and downs, the fun and the awful, the wondering of what we should be, could be and want to be and how to get there. I want our music to be the hand extended for fans to take.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR LATEST SINGLE, “SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL.”

“Shake Rattle and Roll” is about having overwhelming attraction to someone and when the person of your affection is responsive, you are beyond elated.Lust is a powerful emotion. You cannot focus on anything else but that person.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE/LIKE THE LEAST ABOUT THE MUSIC BUSINESS?

The great thing now is that, through social media, we can reach out to and be heard by anyone anywhere across the globe. The music business embracing social media allows for anyone to see and enjoy this entertainment and lets anyone partake in communication with us if they choose to.

BEST CONCERT PERFORMANCE/ PLAYING LIVE GIG?

My favorite performance that we’ve done so far has been at ‘Saint Rocke’ in Hermosa Beach. The look of the venue and lighting was great for our show, the stage was comfortable and intimate and the crowd was extremely fun! We had a really good time playing there!

HOW HAVE YOU EVOLVED OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS AS A MUSICIAN?

With the solid group we have and nurturing advice from Dynamos directorsand managers, I have grown to have a relationship with the songs. I’m not just singing songs,I’m embodying them, living them, and connecting with them. This has given me a new way of thinking about performance.

WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO WRITE/PERFORM WITH?

I would love to write with Whil Harlan, our primary composer. My fantasy is to open for, or perform with, Pete Townshend.

WHAT’S UP NEXT FOR YOU AFTER THE RELEASE OF “SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL”?We have started preproduction of our upcoming video “Stainless”. I am now in the process of designing and developing the wardrobe, makeup and character for our video.

AFTER RECORDING THE “COLD COMFORT” EP AND “SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL,” WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT ADJUSTMENT TO MAKE FROM STAGE TO STUDIO?The most difficult adjustment we have is deciding where to eat. Outside of that, there is no difficult adjustment for us. We are constantly rehearsing for studio, stage, photo shoots, interviews, what we want to post on  social media, how we interact at meetings, etc… We try to be prepared well in advance. We make certain we are ready for anything we have to do as band.
