Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Met You Yet”?
Sure. “Met You Yet” is all about that longing for closure and the realization that in order to move on you also have to learn to let go first. It’s all about finding that one person that we’re all looking for and not knowing whether you might have already bumped into them maybe once or twice in your life. Sort of contemplates whether the whole “meant to be”-thing really exists!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Not in particular. I was writing down my thoughts and how I felt at the time. The topic has come up a couple of times though when we’re all out and I think it sparked the initial idea of the song.
The single comes off your new album One – what’s the story behind the title?
“One” is my first official EP and I poured my heart and soul into it. I feel like this is the start of something, step one. So I called it “One”. The next one will probably be called “Two” haha
How was the recording and writing process?
It was really fun! All songs on “One” came together in the last two years. Some of the tracks are co-writes with some amazing fellow musicians that I’ve been working with and some I wrote by myself. I had more than 5 to choose from, but once I decided on those 5 tracks, we started recording in Berlin. I think we did all of them in about 5-6 days. It was intense but I loved it. I’m really excited for everyone to hear the tracks but I’m also nervous because as an artist you’re putting yourself out there, it’s like sharing my thoughts and feelings with everyone, so I hope people will like it and can relate to some of it!
What role did Berlin play in the writing of this record?
I’m working with All Is One! Music, a German Music Company! They approached me early 2016 and we’ve been working together ever since. It was a real pleasure to record my EP in their brand new studio in Berlin.
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Just in everyday life really. Sometimes it starts with a simple melody in my head and I start writing something around that but a lot of the time it starts with a lyric, a line about something that I’ve just seen or felt and then I take it from there. Could be the most random places, it happens a lot on the tube actually, I guess it’s because you can’t get distracted that easily so you take that time to reflect on things. It is important to me that what I write about comes from a place of honesty, most of my songs are about things that I’ve been through or how I felt in a specific moment at that particular time.
Any plans to hit the road?
Absolutely! I love being on stage more than anything. There aren’t any official dates yet, but I’ll be sure to let you know!
What else is happening next in Georgie Chapple’s world?
Right now, I’m just really excited for people to hear what I’ve been working on for the past 2 years! But I’ve also been writing loads again recently, so I’ll be hitting the studio real soon and hope to share some more material with you in 2018!
