1. Hi Gabi, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great, just been busy. There’s a lot going on— releasing music while attending college in Miami. I’m just adjusting but i’m really excited!

2. Can you talk to us more about your new single “Liberteens”?

The song talks about what it’s like to be sixteen, but beyond that, it’s meant for people to think back to their teenage years. Whether you are sixteen, thirty, fifty, etc., it’s meant to reflect on times of reckless adolescence.

3. Did any event inspire you to write this song?

The inspiration for the song comes from every experience I’ve had in high school — the parties, the friends, the boys.

4. How was the filming experience?

It was really cool and different because I got to play a character kind of similar to myself. I’m more introverted than you’d expect, but it was cool to go to back to high school for a few hours!

5. How was the recording and writing proces?

It was awesome, I worked with a writer Troi Irons who saw the song the same way as I did. Writing it together was easy because we both talked about our high school experiences and put it into a song. Troi and I are both really different from one another, so it was cool to see how relatable we were through the lyrics and music.

6. How has Gavin DeGraw and Billy Joel influenced your writing?

They are both great writers and great performers. That’s always been an important element in deciding which artists I admire. There is this small venue in Long Island, where I am from and I used to see Gavin play every time he was in town.

7. What role does Miami play in your music?

Anyone who knows me knows that I represent New York loud and proud! But I recently moved to Miami for college. I love the culture and liveliness of the city. The latin culture especially has open up my taste for music and there is a big EDM scene down here too. Maybe in the future you’ll see me incorporate that into my music!

8. Does Fashion influence your music and the other way around?

100 percent! I think both music and fashion are ways of self expression. I always loved fashion, I’ve been in jeans since I was three and always keep up with trends. If I weren’t doing music, who knows, maybe I’d do fashion! Maybe down the road, I can do music and fashion.

9. Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

An album would be the ultimate goal, but for now I want to put out a few singles and maybe an EP before that. My sound has completely evolved from the time I started in the industry to where I am now, and I hope it keeps progressing.

10. Any tentative release date or title in mind?

You’ll just have to see!

11. Any plans to hit the road?

Nothing definite yet but I hope to travel and perform soon!

12. What else is happening next in Gabi Sklar’s world?

I’m excited to see how people respond to the new single, and in the next few months you’ll see another single. In the meantime, I’m working and working so you guys can hear more music from me!!
