Can you talk to us more about your latest single “We Don’t Need A Reason”?
Some people get their chance at true love or the job they were meant to have and they are too scared to take that leap of faith. This song is deciding to take that chance.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
My wife! A dozen years ago she wrote me an email and said what taking my a chance on love with her would mean. She was right.
The first conversation she told me she wanted a brown haired, blue eyed Aries singer. I knew just the man. Thankfully.
The single comes off your new album The Queen and The Outcast – what’s the story behind the title?
We grew up very differently. She had every advantage and I didn’t but our values are completely aligned. She’s my queen and I belong with her but I don’t forget where I came from.
How was the recording and writing process?
Amazing. Singular. C. Todd Nielsen and Lawrence Katz were my co writers and producers and we set out to complete a thought- describe my 12 year love affair with my wife.
How did the 70s and 90s influenced the music on this album?
For a long time I tried to deny my past. The 70s and 90s are my sweet spot. Childhood and young adult- where everything is illuminated. I wanted to celebrate the innocence and angst of those times. And the 70’s told stories and the 90s had emotional weight.
Would you call this a follow up or a departure from your previous musical projects?
This feels completely new. No disrespect to my past but this is music for ME and I’ve written for other people in the past.
What aspect of love did you get to explore on this record?
The Whole Damn Mess. It’s not just about feeling love but how love makes you feel. All of it. Real love. It’s heavy.
Any plans to hit the road?
Can’t wait. Can we play your house?
What else is happening next in Whole Damn Mess’ world?
