INTERVIEW: Kylie Spence

Hi Kylie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi VENTS! I have been extremely busy but extremely inspired. Thank you!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lying Eyes”?

Lying Eyes is a moody alternative pop song, and I seriously love it so much. I am very proud of it, and if it wasn’t me that wrote and recorded it, I think i would still listen to it! It is the first single off my EP that will be out next year.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Not really. I wrote this song three days before starting high school. A lot of people are shocked when they hear the song. I get reactions like “who hurt her?!?” and “how serious was the relationship?” but their jaws drop when they find out that there was no relationship haha. Sometimes, my inspiration for songs doesn’t stem from personal experience. For Lying Eyes, I wasn’t really inspired by anything in particular, it kinda just happened.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

YES!! The lying eyes music video will actually be out Monday, October 9th, and I can’t wait for you all to watch it:)

How was the recording and writing process?

It was a long and amazing journey. I didn’t know I would end up recording this one after I wrote it. My producer Greg Cortez really loved it, so we demoed it and I am so happy we did to say the least. The song came together very easily, which made the process that much smoother. And since I am a perfectionist, we did many many vocal takes until I thought the sound was close to perfect. The production on this one is so cool. It reminds me of the desert for some reason, so thats where we filmed the video!

What role does Laguna Beach play in your writing?

Laguna was my home for four years, and id say its where I really started digging into music as my passion. There were always opportunities for me to play at open mics and other small restaurants etc, which inspired me to really get good and keep writing. Laguna is also very welcoming of the arts, which makes it easy to branch out. I moved to Big Sky, Montana a little over a month ago, and although I don’t live in Laguna now, it will always have a place in my heart.

How’s your new EP coming along?

The EP has been in the works since February of 2017, and its KILLING ME that I am not able to share everything I have already done. It has been such a fun experience. I love being in the studio, and I love producing too.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I don’t have a set release date yet, but I’m hoping for sometime mid next year. All that I’m gonna say about the title it that its the meaning of my name in Australian, look it up;)

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love to do a small tour next year after the EP is released. Either piggy back off another artist or just play really small gigs, id love it!

What else is happening next in Kylie Spence’s world?

A lot. More writing, more songs, more music, more videos, MORE!
