Great thanks , its been a very manic year so its good to have some chill out time.
Can you talk to us more about your new single “Honesty”?
The track is written with singer/songwriter Frankmusik and produced by Oscar Lo Brutto & myself. I took this idea I had to a studio session
I had with Frankmusk and we just started build it up from there. It was quite amazing working with him as he’s so talented musically it just flowed naturally.
Did any event inspire you to write this song?
Every track I write is personal and in my past I’ve had a few relationships that didn’t work out because of the lack of honesty and only from making those mistakes did I release how important it was.
How was the film experience?
To be honest I didn’t really realise most of the time it was being filmed. My focus was performing with my band and getting that right. I love working with Paolo who directed it because he’s such a good director. I can safely say it was one of the easiest music video shoots I’ve ever done.
The single comes off your new EP Missing Pages – what’s the story behind the title?
Its my 4th EP and all of them have a book theme to the titles The Scrapbook, Under Attack ( Odd one out) Notes From My Piano , The idea being that as Im currently an unsigned Independent artist these tracks are a page or a glimpse at where I am now and where I’m heading in recording that first album – whenever that is.
How was the recording and writing process?
I worked with a few producers and writers on Missing Pages, I love collobartaiing. I work usually in North London with an amazing producer called Oscar Lo Brutto who has worked with some amazing names in the industry and I layed a few tracks like ‘White Dove’ and ‘When You Truly Love Someone’ down with him there and then took over the other tracks into the studio that I did with Frankmusik and The Monarch and worked on the EP from there.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
I wanted it to be a personal EP about where I am now, my experiences & people I have loved and lost. It worked out to be almost therapy for me.The track ‘White Dove’ is probably the most personal track I have ever written which is about my Mum who passed away from Cancer a year or so ago. We were so close , she was my best friend as well as my mum so I knew I wanted to write something special for her and the track came very easily but listening to it back is hard even now let alone singing it live.
Any plans to hit the road?
Possibly over Christmas, I’ve just toured the UK early this year which was fun and done a lot of Festivals over the summer including London Pride and Sundown Festival , so I’m currently back in the studio working on the next chapter of the story but theres nothing like getting out there and hearing your words being sung back to you.
What else is happening next in John Galea’s world?
Ive just started writing for a new hot artist which I can’t say too much about but she’s great and currently locking myself away i loads of different studio sessions. Helpfully I can get away for the new year as well but we shall see – you gotta make time for rest somewhere!
