INTERVIEW: Scream Serenity

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Good thanks! Nice and busy!

Can you talk to us more about your song “Eye of the Storm”?

Sure, what would you like to know…

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It wasn’t one particular event, it was more a build up of what’s been happening in the world over the last year or so; Brexit, the Election of Donald Trump & Natural Disasters happening everywhere.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

Not for Eye of The Storm, the official video for Good Business; the single from the album will be out in the near future.

Why naming the album after this song in particular?

We felt it kind of summed up the album in a good way, in one way or another, the songs on the album reflect things that have happened to some of us in the band and are a portrayal of maybe how we felt about the situations we were in, but I think a lot of people relate to the subject matter in the songs and Eye of The Storm is about being in the middle of all the chaos, which is how a lot of people right now feel about the shape of the world.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process within the band has always been an enjoyable one, we all work very well together, some of the songs were written several years ago and have been re-worked over the course of the band’s life with all of us putting our influence into the tracks. The recording process was great, we hit the studio for a solid week and got everything done we wanted to achieve with the album, it was mainly about staying focused but we had some laughs in the process too!

How has Stone Sour and Shinedown influenced your writing?

I think Stone Sour very much influence us in terms of guitar work in a lot of our heavier tracks, I (Jordan) also take a lot of influence from Corey Taylor with a fairly aggressive vocal style when I feel it’s needed, depending on the song and the lyrical subject. The influence of Shinedown I think is apparent in the choruses we write, quite anthemic and melodic at the same time.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

When I (Jordan) write lyrics I take a look at what’s going on in the world and how it makes me feel. War, politics and relationships are massive tapestries to draw upon when it comes to writing lyrics for me. I’ve always liked to try and be fairly poetic with the lyrics I write rather than be too literal with them, it’s just keeping it balanced between different subjects so you don’t become a band that always writes songs about one thing all the time.

Any plans to hit the road?

We’re now looking at touring in 2018, we have a few shows and festivals booked already but more is definitely in the pipeline!

What else is happening next in Scream Serenity’s world?

I guess we’ll start writing for the next album soon!
